Phonics Workbooks

DS 4 is working slowly through Phonics Pathways. He TOTALLY gets CVC words and can sound them all out.

The only problem is that Phonics Pathways is BORING. Doodey reads about 6 six words and then is bored. I've used paper and pens, a marker board and chalk to make it more interesting. It's.just.not.

Are there any workbook/worksheet style phonics books that would actually help Doodey with Phonics?

Basically, I want the Phonics Pathways content in a more engaging format.

Ideas?

So, for Explode the Code, what level would DS4 be?

He knows all letter sounds, proper vowel sounds, and can sound out any CVC word. He has very little comprehension while reading though. He can read "Dad has a big red hat," but it doesn't mean anything to him (he's four...)

I really don't want to frustrate him with learning and will take a very child-directed approach for the next two years (at least).

Any idea?

Do a few words, do the rest with games!

My game:

Ideas for games with magnetic letters at the last paragraph of this page, you can also run relay races and scoop them out of a bucket and run back and make words:

Explode the Code fans here!

Normally for a child that can easily read CVC words, I'd say start with ETC 2, but you said although he can read, he can't comprehend the words. So I suggest starting with ETC 1.

THANK YOU!

I'm excited now!:001_smile:
