Need help with hospital gift for friend in NYC

Recommended Posts

A dear family friend is going under the knife at Sloan Lettering for lung cancer surgery on Wednesday and we will not be able to be there since we live on the opposite side of the country. I would love to send something for him that isn't the normal flowers, food etc. since he has a ton of friends who will likely fill the room with flowers. You creative folks might have some ideas or so I am hoping :D! Suggestions please? Many thanks!

The Kikkerland Double Rainbow Maker is a wonderful gift for people who need a little hope in their lives. If he has direct sunlight into his hospital window, it will make rotating rainbows all over his walls. If not, it will provide the same warm fuzzies somewhere in his home as he is recovering.

I hate lung cancer. Lost my dear FIL to it ten years ago this month. :crying:

Fairway (http://www.fairwaymarket.com) or Zabars (http://www.zabars.com) are both New York City food places with amazing food.

I have gotten catering stuff from both of them and they do an amazing job. They both offer gift baskets that might work for you.

You could have groceries delivered to their home when they get home......http://www.freshdirect.com

Gingersmom....have you been to the PopTarts Store?!! OMW...that is now my dream vacation destination! LOL

OP....My dad had 3 surgeries for lung cancer (10 yrs cancer free!!) The most appreciated gifts were meals when they got home from the hospital. Mom just had so much she had to do that cooking drained her.

I was just there today with my kids.

Its a temporary space till January. It looks like a temporary space.

We had the full Pop Tart experience.....custom designed t-shirts (cute), creating your own box of Pop Tarts (you pick which different flavors you want in your box), Pop Tart Sushi (disgusting!!!), plus my kids got to pick their own flavor Pop Tart and then had it covered with frosting, sprinkles and chocolate sauce.

It was fun but I'm happy its only open till January so I don't have to go back again :D

Wonderful news about your Dad's cancer survival!!!

Yes, food is important and this guy is single too. I know he has tons of friends that are local taking care of the meals, fortunately!

Not to be grim, but if he dies, his family can remember him by the music box. My friend's widow has it out in the living room. Sorry about the lung Ca. My brother died of it last year.

Sorry about your brother....appreciate the thoughtfulness in the gift suggestion, kalanamak.
