Would you please help me word this card/gift?

My kids have been invited to a birthday party for our neighbor's grandson (she has custody). She says he's getting tons of gifts and has plenty of toys already and couldn't come up with any suggestions. I suggested a trip to the big zoo about 30 minutes from with my kids. She liked the idea.

 

So, DD and I are making a homemade card to tell him what his gift from us will be. I'm thinking we'll spend a few hours at the zoo and get ice cream on the way home. How would you word the card? He's going into 3rd grade.

 

We leave for the party in an hour.

I'd make up some sort of goofy rhyme/poem.

 

(lines ending in zoo, to, do, you, etc...) ;)

 

And, add a cute illustration, maybe something like:

Or make a big brightly colored zoo ticket and ice cream ticket.

HAHA! this is a very quick rhyming rendition.

 

A trip to the _____ zoo,

is such a fun thing to do.

After seeing the animals fly, crawl & hop,

we'll cool off and go to the ice cream shop!

What an awesome gift! I like the idea of making "tickets" - maybe out of cardstock - and putting them inside the card. Then he has something to "open" and will have fun reading them and redeeming them. :)

 

But I love the above rhyme and would add that into the birthday card too!!!

I agree with the ticket and poem idea. I would probably print colorful tickets and laminate them, but since you only have an hour, using cardstock or construction paper, maybe with stickers, would be good.
