Krista in LA
My 9ds just started crying that his ear hurt. The only other times he has complained of ear pain, he ended up with a burst drum before the night was through. Why do these things always happen on a Friday night? I believe our ped has some Saturday hours, so I'll probably be calling him in the morning. In the meantime, what can I do to help him with the pain? I've given him some Motrin, but it isn't really doing much for him. theodwyn
You can get some similasan drops over the counter to use as long as there is no drainage (indicating a ruptured ear drum). Sometimes a warm heating pad or towel to that ear feels good too. Wendy
CalicoKat
a couple drops of warm olive oil that has had a bit of garlic steeped in it. Don't put the garlic in his ear though!
readwithem
Hope he's in bed now - but you could try heat - a heating pad or a hair dryer - to relieve the pain. Hope he's feeling better tomorrow!
Ravin
Try alternating a cool, moist rag for 10 min. with a heat source (a lightbulb works well, you just have to cup your hand around his ear to make sure you don't touch him with it and burn him) for five minutes. The alternating heat and cold encourage the sinuses to dialate and drain pressure off the ear, plus feels good. This helped DD w/ ear pain before.
