Dobela
An interesting blog article about adopting children with severe emotional and behavioral issues. http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2010-05-06/who-adopts-a-rejected-kid/?cid=hp:mainpromo9#
thescrappyhomeschooler
This article makes me sad that there are kids who are so severely damaged that they are almost impossible to integrate into a loving home. My aunt had friends who adopted an older girl after their only son had died, and they ended up giving her back because they couldn't handle the emotional trauma and physical violence of this girl. It was a very sad situation.
angela in ohio
Interesting article. From dh's work, I know that children with these same problems are not one-in-a-million cases. There are parents all around this country dealing with behaviors like this on a day to day basis. So it can be done. It is being done. I think the screening process failed in Vanessa's case. A single woman in her forties with a full-time job doesn't seem like a fit for a girl with potentially severe issues.
misidawnrn
It makes me think of "little house on the praire" where Mrs. Olson adopts Nancy to replace Nellie, who had gotten married. Nancy was just plain mean!
dragons in the flower bed
It is sad and true and I am glad there are parents for these children. I wonder what happens to these children when they become adults.
