Lawana
Yesterday, my 99yo grandmother died. Totally expected. But totally unexpectedly, (well, almost) my 18 yo neighbor died also. While any death brings sadness, the passing of a 99yo that has lived a long life, is the mother of 6, grandmother of 34, and greatgrandmother of 91 is not a tragedy. The passing of an 18yo that lead a troubled, at best, life is. He left a daughter that will never know her father. He lived life as someone who couldn't think past his immediate desires and needs for gratification. He died after a drunken fight on the side of a busy highway lead to an attempted run across said highway, with the result being he was hit by one car, flipped across the median, than run over by another. What a waste.

i.love.lucy
Wow. What a legacy, really for both. In one case a triumph of life and family, and in the other a tragic waste.:grouphug:
Tree House Academy
A waste indeed. My condolences as well on the loss of your grandmother. She was very fortunate to live such a long and fruitful life.

Mejane
I understand. I remember when my 77 year old grandfather died. I went back home for the funeral and found out a high school friend had died recently. He was my age (32) and had ALS and had lived the last years of his life totally debilitated. I realized my grandfather's death was not a tragedy; he had lived a full, long life. I felt more aggrieved for this boy I hadn't seen in fifteen years than for my grandpa. I'm sorry for your loss. bookfiend
I'm sorry for the doubled sadness in your life. The contrast in these two lives is amazing and the lessons about the permanance of choice (both positive and negative) are profound.
