Living Books for Chemistry?

Anyone have ideas for informal books that would introduce chemistry concepts? My daughter is 10yo and hasn't had much in the way of chemistry or physics concepts and I'd live to just pick up some library books that would start to lay a framework. She's read MSB type books but I'd like something a little more scientific.

We really enjoyed How to Think Like a Scientist. It's not necessarily chemistry specific, but it explains the scientific theory VERY well. An author with the last name Tocci has written several books about the Periodic Table, Carbon, Nitrogen, Oxygen, ect. They may be a little young for her, but very easy to understand.

I am currently using these:

The Periodic Table by Adrian Dingle

The Mystery of the Periodic Table (Living History) by Benjamin Wiker

Basher Chemistry: Getting a Big Reaction by Dan Green

Transformed: How Everyday Things Are Made by Bill Slavin

Exploring the World of Chemistry by Tiner

Kingfisher has published a series of books by Dan Green which include titles such as The Periodic Table: Elements with Style! and Physics: Why Matter Matters! which include small, fold-out posters at the back of the books.

For more of a true "living" book, Fabre's books would probably better:

This page lists his Wonder Book of Chemistry, Secrets of Everyday Things and also other physical science titles by other authors.

:iagree: This is one of the best science related books out there! It is a MUST read! :D

You might take a look at the NOEO chemistry lists for ideas, too.

My boys LOVE these! I purchased a blank periodic table for them to fill out as we study the elements and they are drawing the elements like the ones in the book.

I recently found one on Rocks too.
