Will Homeowners Insurance go up if I get Auto w/ different company?

Recommended Posts

I have USAA for both right now but Auto went up again. They said that all rates in TX went up 1-2%.

I have been shopping around and might go with GEICO but would that cause my homeowners to go up? or is it the other way around? You get a credit on auto for having both with the same company?

TIA

Ruth

We don't have USAA but with Grange, we do get a multi-policy discount on our homeowner's insurance and auto insurance so in our circumstance, I would think our homeowner's insurance would go up if we cancelled the auto insurance.

ETA: Definitely ask around for people that have had Geico actually pay out on claims before you switch. I used to work with insurance at an Auto Body shop and I would rather have dealt with USAA then Geico any day of the week. They paid claims more easily, for better repairs than some of the cheaper insurances. Just an FYI.

Are you sure it's the same type of policy? USAA almost always beats out GEICO if you're talking about the same type of policy with the same deductible. I *know* that you get a discount on auto insurance if you have multiple insurance policies with them but I'm not sure if it works in reverse.

You are going to dump USAA for a 1-2% increase?

If you are...remember when you are comparing with other companies, that USAA sends back part of your premium. I don't know if the amount varies by state, but for the last few years we've gotten back 5-8%.
