SewLittleTime
Which one do you prefer to have your children learn and why?
Aurelia
I chose Classical because that is the way I learned it, and if I want Ariel to read the "classical" texts, I'd prefer that she do it with classical pronunciation.
amyable
I think I'm in the minority with wanting Ecclesiastical pronunciation - we are Catholic and 99% of the Latin they'll hear (at Mass, in hymns, etc) will be Eccl. If we decide they'll continue with Latin past the basics, I'll introduce them to both pronunciations.
Ester Maria
I voted classical though, as I explained a few times on these boards, we actually combine three pronunciations. "Italian" pronunciation can go to any text; classical pronunciation is for classical texts and ecclesiastical pronunciation for all Christian texts and Neo-Latin. dangermom
We started with ecclesiastical because we like to sing the songs. We're not Catholic though. I figure we'll get to the classical later and absorb it too--it's not THAT huge a difference is it? V = W, the Cs are all Ks, what else? Lisa in the UP of MI
We will use the ecclesiastical pronuciation when we start Latin. We are Catholic and use Latin regularly for prayers and songs in our house and church.
angela in ohio
I knew classical, so that has been the easiest to teach. I have taught both, though, in various classes, and I don't think it matters one way or the other. I have found it fairly easy to switch back and forth.
