Chelle in MO
I received an e-mail about women needing to get this test. It looks like one of "those" e-mails that goes around and around, but isn't accurate. I'd love to hear what you know about the test--good or bad. Thanks, Chelle
Joker
If I remember correctly its used to test for ovarian cancer. (not that you have it but you could get it) I had to have one when I was 20 because of some problems I was having. Due to my age and no family history they wanted to do this test before something invasive. I didn't know they suggested it for everyone though. Home'scool
Yup, it's one of "those" emails. You can find it on Snopes.com. The information isn't necessarily incorrect, just out of date and the test is not very useful. My stepfather emailed me this also. He drives me crazy with this stuff. Chelle in MO
Thanks, you guys. I figured the e-mail wasn't totally legit, but assumed there was something to it. I appreciate your input. Chelle
Nakia
I used to work on a Women's Surgery/Oncology unit. The oncologists use the CA125 as a comparison mostly to determine if chemo is working in a woman already diagnosed with ovarian cancer. WendyK is right about there being many falsely high results. High results can be caused by fibroids, among other things. HTH!
