Prairie~Phlox
I started my older daughter in Saxon 5/4 years ago and she has done well and moved up accordingly. My plan is to start my son when he is in fourth grade, but now I need to find something him, no I don't want to go ahead and start him on 5/4 as he just turned 8 and is a young 3rd grader. Any suggestions. I don't want to have to spend a ton of money either. Thanks, Phlox
JudoMom
I have a friend who just makes sure her kids know all their facts before they start 5/4 and they do just fine with it. I'd think if you just do math facts and maybe a 3rd grade math workbook (maybe Flash Kids from Barnes & Noble or the Complete Book of Math), you could put him into 5/4 when you're ready. hmschooling
According to many moms that have gone through the methods and skills laid out by Ruth Beechick for PK-3, they have found they have been able to transition to just about any 5th-6th grade math program. I have all the info in an organized S&S with games/activities, mastery level goals, real-life math suggestions, etc. without having to dish out money at all. If you are interested, just send me your email and I'll get it right out to you!
Chels~
Bob jones math 3 works nicely before saxon 5/4. We do just the worktext ($17.00) along with flashcards. You don't need all the other stuff.
Avila
We do Abeka 3 before going into Saxon. After Abeka 3, some kids can go straight into Saxon 65, and others go into Saxon 54, depending on the placement tests.
