Kendall
I would like suggestions for an American History spine for my 6th/7th grader. I don’t want to use Hakim. I want something that isn’t too challenging - he’s also reading SOTW 4 and Churchill’s History of the English Speaking Peoples. He will also read from our history shelves, but we’d like a US History book that will fill in the gaps in our shelves as well as direct the choosing from our shelves. Out of print suggestions are also welcome. Thanks in advance, Kendall
Granny_Weatherwax
I'm not sure if my plan will help but I thought I would share it with you. All American History (Bright Ideas Press) Early American History: Native Americans through the 49ers (video series; The Teaching Co.) The videos from The Teaching Co. match up nicely with AAH. Both of these have book lists and material suggestions. I work for a local community college and they have wonderful history materials. I am finding so many interesting books and videos. The problem is culling my choices to fit a our schedule. I hope you find a spine that works for you.
Jen the RD
I really like The Landmark History of the American People by Daniel J. Boorstin. It would be a perfect reading level for your kids. Combine this with some great books and videos mentioned in the previous post and you'd have a great year. Jennifer
patchfire
What about Children's Encyclopedia of American History? It's probably written at more of a 5th grade reading level, but it sounds like that might fit the bill.
