Do you use the umbrella/private/independent/charter school option to homeschool in your state?

 

I'd love to hear about the different options and how it's working for you.

Yes. When we first started homeschooling, I found an inclusive, unschooling friendly umbrella. We've been with them ever since, and I became the director of a spin-off for my side of the state last year. :001_smile:

No, it is not a requirement in Texas. In Texas, homeschools are considered an unaccredited private school even if you choose an accredited program. Also, colleges and universities still enroll you under individual review.

We currently use a public charter cyber school in pa which uses a k12 curriculum. My ds is going into 2nd grade. Right it works for us and gives us enough flexibility to also do the things that I feel are important such a foreign language, etc. If it ever becomes a lot of busy work or impairs our flexibility, then I would not hesitate to do traditional homeschooling:)

 

The one great benefit to it is that I can say your teacher wants you to do this work;)

We use an umbrella school because I don't want the public school system to know my children even exist.:001_smile:

I do so I don't have to register with the LEA. :tongue_smilie: It also provides a nice legal covering and takes care of my state wanting only college degree holders to homeschool high school. :tongue_smilie::tongue_smilie:

We have the option of being with an umbrella school and using whatever curriculum we want, or having a certified teacher(parent or paid tutor) do the teaching and using curriculum approved by the local school board. If I approved of the local yokels curriculum, I would have probably never opted to homeschool, ya know?
