battlemaiden
I seem to recall that Jan Brett's ancestry was Ukrainian or thereabouts. But now I'm wondering if I'm putting her into one of her books. :D I have looked on her webpage as well as her blog to no avail. Does someone know? Thanks. Nicole M
Don't know where she's from, but I do love looking at her books. (Reading them, though. That's another story. I constantly want to re-write the text.)

zaichiki
She's from MA. I believe she started illustrating with the Eastern European style after visiting Eastern Europe with her husband. (He plays with the BSO and she frequently accompanies him when they tour abroad.) Also, she raises chickens! (That's where the chicken influences in her books come from.) Ds met another 4H child at a poultry show who told ds all about the gorgeous white crested black polish rooster he had perched on his shoulder. Jan Brett had gifted it to him from her breeding program!
OrganicAnn
I believe she also has a daughter in law or son in law from China which inspired "Daisy Come Home" which takes place in China.
LibraryLover
I don't know Brett's ancestral history, but she was born, raised and lives n a costal New England town. The state of MA, in particular. I've met her at poultry shows and she is generous and kind. She is very open to kids, and schools. I think she is a gem! She is a very special artist and human being.
