Janie
I'm trying to think of timesavers for quick meals when school resumes in an oh-so-few weeks. I've never cooked and frozen rice or beans, and I would be doing this for the Eat to Live plan. Any help? Thanks!
Cedarmom
Yes I freeze both rice and beans. I just cook and stick in a plastic container or bag. When I defrost, I stick them out that morning or the night before.
Amira
I do it the same way Cedarmom does, especially with beans. Having them in the freezer makes them as easy to use as canned beans.
LaxMom
Yep, I either microwave them or throw them in the oven. Keep them covered either way or they tend to come out crunchy from the steam loss.
HiddenJewel
I boil my beans and then throw them in the freezer. No problems yet.
gardening momma
I put leftover rice (I always cook too much) in a ziploc baggie, seal it, and flatten it. Then I put it on a flat surface in the freezer until it freezes. Then it's easy to move around when you need to rearrange things in your freezer. I reheat it in the microwave, in the bag. Rosie_0801
I've done the same with barley, which is a nice change from rice now and then. :) Rosie
whitestavern
Not to hijack your thread, but are these green beans you're speaking of or beans like kidney beans, black beans, etc. I've always wondered if you could freeze those kind. Could someone clarify? Thanks!
Janie
I was referring to dried beans (not green beans) in my original question. :) So glad for so much success! Guess those jokers are going in the freezer big time in August! Thanks!
