Caroline4kids
Are these materials Christian or secular? Is her English roots program considered English or history? If you have used here programs, what do you think? How is retention with her materials? I am very intrigued and would like to learn more.:)
Corraleno
The materials are secular. I think you could count Excavating English as either History or English, if you need to categorize it on a transcript, but it's not really a "vocabulary program" like Vocabulary from Classical Roots or Caesar's English; it's more like the history of the English language. I like both of her Chem programs (The Elements & Carbon Chemistry) but haven't used them formally with my kids yet, I've just gone over a few sections with them to whet their appetites. I think they look great, though. I also love The Brain: Neurology for Kids and plan to use it in Biology this year. I'm trying to think of a way to make the "brain hat" out of fabric instead of paper, or transfer the design onto a cap or something. She has the coolest ideas! gsesce
I'm using this for my sixth grader as an end of year unit study since we finished out Literature early. I would say it is Christian-friendly - she uses the Lord's Prayer in different languages (Old Norse, Old English, etc.) as an example. I'm not sure how I would categorize it - it's history, literature, grammar, spelling and linguistics. Really fascinating stuff. Jeanne in MN
I'm copying off the first chapters of her Mapping the World with Art right now. It looks amazing!

WishboneDawn
She is Christian herself (I knew someone who knows her) but her materials are secular.
Lovedtodeath
She is Christian herself (I knew someone who knows her) but her materials are secular. I find it annoying that this would matter.
WishboneDawn
I find it annoying that this would matter. Hmmm. I think I agree with you.
mama25angels
I find it annoying that this would matter. She didn't ask if the author was Christian, she asked if the materials were :grouphug:

mama25angels
Thanks for the hugs. :) It's just that when I go to apply for a job in advertising design, I don't volunteer my religion as part of the interview, and it would be illegal and unethical to ask. But cross that line to being an author and the rules change? I don't think the rules change, I just wanted you to know that she wasn't really caring if the author was Christian or not, but that she wanted to know if the materials were secular or not. I'm assuming she was asking because it would help her to make her decision in whether to use them or not.
Lovedtodeath
I guess I am just whining. LOL. It's not like I can change it. Okay, I think I am done.:tongue_smilie: Edited June 11, 2009 by Lovedtodeath
