blessednest
I am at a loss at to what to use. I want a really good spine, and then throw in good literature. I know TWTM suggests the Kingfisher, but I need something with more meat than that. I have SOTW, and the 1st 3 volumes of MOH, but really need something for 1850-present... help! BeckyFL
We used Biblioplan last year for that time period and ds reported that it was his favorite subject (unusual to have him specify history this way). It used A History of US as the spine. You can get those at many libraries.

Jennifer Why not use SOTW 4 for 1850-present? That is what we'll be using for my 6th grader, and that is also what TOG schedules as an alternate spine for the time period. The new version of TWTM suggests the following spines, in order of difficulty: Usborne Internet-Linked Encyclopedia of World History, DK History of the World, or the National Geographic Almanac of World History. blessednest
Thanks! I forgot about Biblioplan, and am on my way to check it out now. I will have my younger child use SOTW 4, and have considered having my older one use it too... hmmm lots to think about.
dhudson
We're using MFW's 1850 - MOD for our 7th grader.
Kim in SouthGa
We'll be using Biblioplan. I think the clincher was the new Cool History book they have that goes with it. Looks like a lot of fun. For 1850-Modern, they use Streams of Civ. 2, History of US, SOTW 4, and Kingfisher as their main spines.

Penny
SOTW AND BiblioPlan. Why choose? (In other words, why not load yourself up with more than you can possibly accomplish like we do???) Blessings!
LindaOz
We're using Sonlight Core 7 which uses SOTW 3&4 as a spine, as well as books like Abraham Lincoln's World. Then there's heaps of literature to go along with it.
Donna A.
My 8th grader will do MFW 1850-Modern next year, minus the science. (She'll be doing Apologia for science.) http://www.mfwbooks.com/1850mod.htm

Julie in MN
We're using MFW's 1850 - MOD for our 7th grader. We're in the middle of this. We're using SOTW-4 for world history, which is extensive. However, SOTW-4 is skimpy on US history, so we're really enjoying all the MFW extras for that (games & songs to learn the states, DK book for era overviews, read-alouds for depth on topics, inspiring characters in In God We Trust, a few cute "American stories" in Exploring American History, overview of each state that joined the union on the MFW state sheets, notebooking each president, US History Cookbook for different eras, etc...). Whew, modern history is big! Julie
