Annie G
The score needed to advance today was high. The possible score was 31. 25 points from the written test, then 3 points for each of 2 oral words. To advance to today's rounds, a speller needed 28 points. Today's competition is going to be fun!!
Kay in Cal
Bumping this up because we are watching right now.... I love that I'm not the only person in the world who thinks of the Spelling Bee as a major sporting event. My ds7 woke me up at 7 am... "Wake up! It's time to watch the spelling bee!!!" Three homeschoolers in the running so far.... but we are a bit behind "live". We like to root for the homeschoolers!

Kay in Cal
Lots of homeschoolers... I wish they had a link with a list of info. We're having a great time. My ds7 is hoping for a repeat of last year's "numb-nuts" incident.
Annie G
Kay, the Scripps site has a bio on every speller. Is that the info you're looking for? They also have statistice, such as how many homeschoolers, spellers who have siblngs who have competed, and such stuff. Yep, nerdy day at our house. Kay in Cal
Awesome! We are just starting to watch round five--we counted 7 homeschoolers, but I may have missed one. Gonna go check out the link!
elegantlion
We just finished watching Akeelah and the Bee, so the timing was perfect. I didn't even realize the spelling bee was on today. We watched a little, our first official day of summer and my ds wanted to watch part of the spelling bee. Wow, some of the academics rubbed off on him this year. :D
Colleen in NS
Cool! There's a homeschooler from Nova Scotia there!
nova mama
I'm there. Thanks!
Kay in Cal
We just started watching round 6.... 3 homeschoolers remain (the young man from Virginia is homeschooled, I looked up the acronym). Round 5 was brutal! My ds 7 is afraid there won't be anyone left for the finals tonight!
