Thanks for all of the great ideas! I bought Homeschool Tracker and will spend some time soon learning how to use it. I'm just not a big computer person when it comes to lesson plans. I like having everything on paper in front of me. I know I can print stuff, but - well - we'll see how it goes. Thanks, Judy

For example, I read my oldest child's science chapter and the topic is cells, I want to teach all of the children together, so I need to figure out what they can do together and what each individual is responsible for. They will all listen to the chapter being read aloud, watch a video about cells and make the edible cell activity I found online. The 6th and 7th graders will define the vocab. words, label a diagram of a cell, and answer the questions at the end of the chapter. The 3rd grader will read a library book about cells, fill in the blanks of a vocab. sheet, and label a simple diagram of a cell. The 1st grader and Kindergartener will do some copywork on cells and color a picture of a cell. Now, what is the best way to organize information like this while planning this summer? I tend to make things more complicated than they need to be. So any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Judy

Thanks! Do you have specific things that you want your student to cover concerning important people, wars/conflicts...? Like...Date born/died, where did he/she live, why were they important? Or do you let them write whatever they would like to write about the person or event? Thanks, Judy

We read alot of our history aloud as a family and discuss it, watch doc./movies, read novels...but I haven't made them do many written narrations - mostly oral. Same for science. They can answer the questions at the end of the section. They sometimes fill out a lab activity or other worksheet. We look up things on the computer, have the occasional experiment during class, otherwise it's mainly talking about the chapter. I feel like I should have more to 'show' for what we have covered. The kids love it and are learning....I don't know maybe it's th p.s. teacher in me... What do your kids have in their notebooks? Thanks, Judy

:grouphug: to you training5!! I have the same character flaw! For me, part of the problem is I worry that I don't have the perfect curricula for each subject for each of my 5 kids. (I have 4 girls and one boy also, ages 12 to 5.):) So, like you I start out the year with great plans, but then I start to question myself on the curricula choices...and before long I'm adding or switching or taking something out. Why do we(I) make things more difficult than they need to be?! Anyway, I just wanted you to know that you're not alone. Judy

I've heard that it is for students who have never used Saxon, and that it doesn't give an accurate evaluation of skills for those who have...(?) Thanks, Judy

My son is in 7th grade. We left Saxon 6/5 to try another program, but later came back to Saxon. We are finishing 6/5 and I've heard that 7/6 and 8/7 are alot alike. Do any of you skip a level in Saxon? Our 6/5 book is the 3rd edition if that matters, and he has done well in it. Thanks, Judy

We live in Chesapeake (the city beside Va. Beach), Sand Bridge and low lying areas prone to easy flooding in Norfolk have to evacuate. Most of my friends and family in Va. Beach and Chesapeake are staying put unless things change for the worse tomorrow. Please pray for all of us, Judy
