My sister is now a professional dancer but I remember one of her studios as a teenager was like this.  The teachers were all extremely petite, stick thin women, and while we never thought they were deliberately excluding people, it was like they forgot people above a size 4 exist.

it’s a rant for another day, but I went from a size 14/16 in 2020 to a size 2 right now.  I am shocked by the difference in the way people, especially, strangers, treat me.  I was always skinny until fertility treatments and never noticed, to be honest, but thin privilege is really a thing.  I really worry about the world my daughter is growing up in.

I'm the opposite. Used to be thinner and now....not....LOL! But the difference in how I'm treated now is incredibly different to how I was treated then. It's shocking and definitely a thing.

OP, I'm so sorry that you're having to go through this. You're not wrong and it's a hill I'd be willing to die on.

Yes, I think this is all we know so far.  No way to rely on the backstory from the books, since they've so completely changed much of the backstories.  Siegfried going from a happy-go-lucky ladies' man to a shy widower is the really glaring one.  And I'm obviously watching anyway!  Who knows what the real guy Siegfried was based on was like - the book's author also changed a lot of backstories, names, and made composite characters.  The author's (real name: Jim Wight) wife, IRL wasn't even a farmer's daughter.  So I'm looking at this like an alternate-universe version of the story, like the various Spider-Man movies, lol...

He was known as Alf Wight. My parents met him once and said he was a lovely man. I'm from near to where they filmed the series/the real town he was from (Thirsk) and my Grandparents lived in the Dales. Watching it really makes me homesick!

I don’t think he died serving his country. I think he came back with PTSD and things were bad between them. I’m not clear if he is dead or not, given that she said to her friend at one point this season, I’m still a married woman.

I think this also. Hopefully we'll find out more in the next season!

Back in the day they used to allow missionaries to fly business class.   My parents were missionaries.   I always thought sitting up on the 2nd floor of the airplane was the coolest thing ever.

Whaaaaaaat!?! What airline was this? DH's parents were missionaries overseas for 40 years and they didn't get this treatment! They must have been flying the wrong airline!!!

DH is a pilot for the airlines so I've flown a lot in all areas of the plane. Of course First or Business are my favorite and I'd definitely consider paying a little bit to upgrade if we bought tickets (but not full price). To be honest I have a hard time paying at all for tickets since we have free standby flights (Internationally we pay but a VERY low rate). 😬 We've taken full advantage of that in years past but Covid, obviously, put a damper on things. I can't wait to get up in the air again!

  4. Thanks for the Quordle and Absurdle recommendations. I've added those to my daily play!

It took me 4 for Wordle today because I kept on guessing an incorrect letter. 🙄

Nerdle in 3 and Mini Nerdle in 2!

Oh my the halftime show. Could they not get the younger entertainers/musicians to do halftime?

The Rock's intro I thought was really entertaining. Since we are in a pandemic there isn't anyone to explain all that was going on in the game so the game itself wasn't the most riveting for our family. It seemed like a fun game because the score stayed pretty close.

See, my opinion is the opposite. I thought the Rock's intro was too forced and the opposite of entertaining and I thought the halftime show was awesome! LOL!

Just in case your doctor is testing for cholesterol,  be aware there can be a temporary cholesterol dump into the blood when you have been losing weight, so don't panic!

It's a full work up so I'm sure he will. Thank you so much for this warning!!!

Doing well with the decreased bfast/pre-workout meal. And I've felt the last few days that my lunch was a bit heavy too, so tomorrow I'm going to cut my serving of salmon patties in half and adding in even more veggies to my salad.

After such a heavy lunch I'm going lighter for dinner- baked tostados w/ the pressure cooked chicken and roasted veggies

Do you have a salmon patty recipe? I'm sorry if you already posted it, I didn't see it! I have salmon and I'd love to make a patty to go on top of a salad this week.

  8. I love reading what everyone's eating so thank you for posting that, especially the veggie options!

I'm on day 26 of Intermittent Fasting and doing well. I've lost 13 pounds (I have a lot to lose) and more importantly my energy is through the roof.

Have an appointment with my doctor to get a baseline physical on the 1st. It won't show a correct baseline as I'll have been doing this for a month already and I'm sure there are some changes that are happening, but it's when my doctor could get me in since I'm not sick.

I've been focusing on clean fasting and February is my month to focus on clean eating. Thankfully I love any and all vegetables and so hopefully it'll go well!

I thought I was doing better this week, still a few slip ups in the early evenings but mostly ok, but the scale went up instead of down. Except today it's way down from where it was yesterday, like a pound and a half. We'll see what it shows tomorrow, but it's messing with my mind right now. I want to believe that this is the real weight--this is where it should trend (half a pound down from last week). But I don't understand why it was going up and why it would drop so much with one day of careful (not perfect) eating. The only theory I have is water intake--I know I don't get enough during the week when I'm masked all day. Could this make me retain water weight? I don't know. Anyway, that doesn't have too much to do with healthy eating. I'm still trying my best and will start a new week tomorrow trying to do a better job (again) of the after school eating.

Can you record your weight each day in an app and over time it should show a downward shift. That might be helpful for you to see after a few weeks of data. I have found my weight to fluctuate a lot during the week and so I weigh each day and record it. I was going to weigh once a week but I noticed my weight each week was crazy fluctuating and so doing each day and seeing a downward trend is better for me.

  10. I started it then DH took a new job and we had to trim our expenses (I did the month-month). I had a hard time/got annoyed by Dallas' talking through the first few videos/weeks. I do love everything else about it, though!

I'm focusing on my nutrition right now but want to add in more exercise later in the year. Hopefully we'll be in a better place financially and I can add it in. Your progress is inspiring!!!

    UPDATE:

They still don't have a flight back.   I told them the dog is barking at my dad.

their response?   "oh, does he walk with a stick or a cane?   Our dog doesn't like those."

    😏

Yeah, come get your damn dog!~

Yeah, this is probably an expected response to that statement. I don't read anything into it, just a comment on why the dog might be barking at him. You can't make hints with this family an expect them to pick up on them. Even if they do then they can pretend that they don't know what you're getting at. Being up front and clear about your boundaries is the only way to go from here. That's an awful situation that they've put you in. I'm sorry. I'd be seriously re-evaluating the friendship when/if they get back and get their dog.

  12. I got Covid back last year in February. Severe body aches, fever, malaise/tiredness, hard time concentrating (ie: could watch TV but reading was hard), loss of smell/taste (for only a month thankfully!)

#1 Vaccination June: Sore arm, slight tiredness

#2 Vaccination July: No symptoms not even sore arm

Not sure if that's helpful or any indicator. Are you asking about if you're vaccinated first whether your symptoms would be similar if you get Covid later? I think it's hard with different strains. I had the OG covid 😂 and it was worse than the flu but I had no respiratory problems. I have a couple of friends who also had it and were fine but lost taste/smell. Those same friends were vaxxed with no problems and just recently caught omicron and their only symptom this time is tiredness. I think it's pretty individual and a crapshoot based on what I've seen anecdotally in my area.

  13. DH recently switched airlines (he's a pilot) and he's worried he'll slip back into the familiar old company call sign when communicating to the tower from the flight deck so he came up with this jingle that's his new company call sign over and over. LOL! 😂 Maybe you could try that!?! 😁

Good.  It was my 46 minute hard abs Xena workout.  (Designed by my personal trainer for me.)  I did it still during my fasting period and did ok.  But my sugars were elevated for some non-food reason this morning so I think that covered it.  I ate about 45 minutes after the workout and my sugars were low but not super low or anything.  Just a nice number.

I try to do my personal trainer workouts (which include resistance training and dumbbells as well as body weight exercises) a couple of times a week with some recovery time in between.

That's great! I've hard that those sorts of exercises are really good to do (body weight exercises). I'm waiting a bit before I start doing anything other than walking as I just hit 40 and my knees started chirping at me. Trying to lose a bit of weight before I start anything that might damage them more.

I've been sort of incidentally easing into IF. On Saturday I didn't have anything other than La Croix and tea until 5:30pm. It wasn't fun, but I was actually so busy that I just pushed through the gnawing hunger pangs. I had two waves of that--bordering on nausea. I just sipped unsweet iced tea until it passed each time. I don't plan on making a habit of that.

My big fail was last night. I had red wine. And I over did it a little. My mother (with whom I went no contact a few months ago) texted me out of the blue requesting that I bring something to her that I had borrowed. I'm not setting foot on their property. Dh offered to take the thing and drop it off on their porch, but I'm really not even comfortable with him setting foot on their property. Just ignore this--it's for another thread. I have people at church who will help me if it comes to that. It just really stressed me out. But yeah--I cannot afford to be drinking calories.

I have found if I drink a flavored water or anything but regular water, mineral water, or black plain tea I get pretty bad hunger pains. Maybe try cutting out the lacroix until your eating window and that will help? So sorry about your mom. Sounds like you deserved the wine. Hugs!

One week of IF and I haven't lost a #$$%% thing.  I haven't been perfect but I have cut an entire meal's worth of calories a day.

OK - time for Xena to gird up her loins.  Last week I was getting used to the whole fasting thing and making sure that I didn't die from low blood sugars.  This week I need to add Xena workouts back to the mix while still making sure that I don't die from low blood sugars.  I'm mad enough at my body this morning that my Xena workout should be extra energetic.

I read Gin Stephens' Feast.Fast.Repeat. book and she recommends weighing each day then taking the average (if you're going to weigh at all). Sometimes you can see that the average is trending down and that can be helpful. I also read there, and elsewhere, that it can take a few weeks or so before you see consistent results. Keep at it! The fact that your sugars are regulating a little bit is a huge victory!!!

I started IF with focusing on a clean fast on January 1st and I'm down 10 pounds (I have a lot to lose) but the best thing about it is that I have a ton of energy - so much so that I'm not taking an afternoon nap at all which is almost unheard of for me (I liken myself to a Koala. LOL!) With a clean fast I'm finding that I'm not hungry much until close to my eating window and I don't have any hangriness or other emotional challenges either. I'm currently focusing on keeping to the clean part of the fast and eating what I want in my window. After a month or so I might look at making some changes in what I eat during the window but right now it's been freeing to not have to put rules on what I'm eating.

  16. DH is a pilot and used to fly for AA (flies elsewhere currently). There have been a TON of cancellations due to storms in the NE and that coupled with Omicron running through the crews has been a nightmare to staff any airline right now. Almost all of them have been affected. I have never seen it this bad for crew staffing.

Can she stand by for the next flight? Maybe going to the airport will help.

It's a totally sucky situation, I'm really sorry that your daughter is caught up in it. I hope that she gets out soon!
