  1. I"m here - I looked for a thread yesterday but never saw it. Goodwill pickup again today {in theory - the hurricane may have delayed it}. I started tackling the storage room last night and it's about 1/3 of the way done - I had to stop because the recycle was full. Today's goals: ~Load of dishes ~Put away all the clean laundry ~at least two loads of Laundry ~Sweeping floors, Again.
  2. I can't believe I'm asking this, but how is Easy Peasy or Discovery K12 for middle school and up? Or are there any other similar options out there? I'm not looking for fancy perfect WTM eduation. Just basic get it done and cover what needs covered. In conjunction with the move thread I posted a few days ago, I'm taking a hard look at everything we own. Homeschooling items included. It occurred to me that if we brought only math books {they'll pry my Saxon 1st editions out of my hands when I'm gone}, it would help immensely on the weight. So I'm looking at low cost online options that are planned out for me.
  3. I was up most of the night with the storm. So my goal for today is just the basics: 1 load of dishes 2 loads of laundry 30 minutes cleaning in the living room And going to bed at a decent hour. I might even add taking a nap.
  4. Plumbers done, two faucets replaced, nap taken and windows readied for the coming storm. About to unload the dishwasher and load it with what I hope is the VERY LAST LOAD of dishes to catch up with.
  5. Ours is a mishmash. Anything from milk and cereal to crackers and cheese to leftovers to a full bacon and eggs breakfast {rarely}. It just depends. I buy the frozen pre-cooked sausage patties a lot. Those plus a can of biscuits or waffles and I've got breakfast in minutes.
  6. I might could mail, but it's iffy tbh. We've already had one package lost from him to me. Moving from the USA to a foreign country, so driving is definitely out.
  7. I'm facing prepping for a possible long distance move with minimal possessions taken as we'll be combining households. But it's not a definite thing yet and the timing is very much up in the air due to a lot of factors. When it does happen it'll probably be very short notice due to his work schedules. How on earth can I prep for this? Obviously nearly everything here will be sold or donated. But if I start that now, I risk ending up living out of boxes for a long time. If I wait, then I risk not being able to sell things fast, and I would like the cash for them if possible to help replace things in our new location. I'm already decluttering as much as possible. And figuring out what items I do want to take {we'll be limited to 6 - 8 suitcases unless we pay for more}. ETA: It's possibly international but not 100% sure yet. He might come here and together we move to a new location on the other side of the USA. More likely is I will go to his country. He's handling visa requirements and all that if needed.
  8. My list today is very short. I was up all night again. And the plumbers are here now working. As soon as they are done, I'm going to bed I think. But I did two loads of dishes and laundry overnight :)
  9. Yup in the path in SA. Not doing much to prep other than trying to get laundry caught up so I have totes for leaks.
  10. Yup same here. I do paleo plus cheese and cooked dairy. I can't tolerate it well
  11. Add me to the hyperemesis list. Struggled until 16 weeks then medicated after that so just severe nausea. Then a bout of Thyroid issues that presented exactly like the hyperemesis. Said pregnancy is also probably what pushed it into full blown thyroid storm. My teeth are destroyed as a result of the constant vomiting acid on top of already weak enamel. What's left is crumbling and I can't afford to get it fixed, even at the dental school. That's in turn affected my diet. That plus the metabolism messed up from the hyperemesis and the thyroid both, and I can't lose weight even if you paid me. I have a very unhealthy relationship with food now that borders on an ED. And my self-image is shot.
  12. Well the plumbers had to reschedule for Friday, so after a nap I'm back. Dishwasher is running. I'm going to take it easy today - maybe some laundry, reload the dishwasher, and just cook an easy dinner. I did clean out my backpack / purse just now though. I think I've cleaned enough to start doing the regular missions. I'll still spend a good hour or so deep cleaning daily in the rooms that need it, but I can take the second hour and devote it to Flylady's daily tasks and the missions.
  13. After the plumbers come this morning? I'm going to bed! I pulled an all night cleaning session. But both bathrooms are scrubbed, the floors are mopped, Dishes caught up and such. My sink is both empty and shiny for the first time in a VERY long time. Tomorrow I'll start on the marathon of laundry. And the living room. And maybe the 2nd storage room.
  14. You can. But our normal is eating in front of the TV or laptop. I'd like DD to learn how to handle formal dinners with place settings and such. Something I sorely wished I'd known in college.
  15. I like that idea! It also would be a great opportunity to teach formal meal manners, something I'd like DD to learn.
  16. Honestly, the best thing I did was give up family meals. I'm a single mom and homeschool. DD is with me 24/7. We don't need that extra connection time. Once in a while if her friends are here we'll all sit down to eat together but it's rare
  17. Pretty much yes you'd just be under heavy guard. Or old person with fake documents with a new identity that is plausible. Working would be out of the question but I'm assuming it would be anyways in that type of situation.
  18. I assume they can. But there also is private witness relocation / bodyguard services that can be anywhere in the world.
  19. Ditto. And there's also private witness protection as well, so any documents provided might be non-governmental. I also find it interesting that everyone here is assuming being relocated in the same country as they are currently.
  20. Not able to shop because you can't be in public. I'm assuming either food would be provided or you could order from Amazon under the new identity. No ideas for transport. Basically they show up and say you have an hour. Good question on the photos. Lets assume yes but not tons
  21. Here's my list, in theory. DD's suitcase: All her American girl stuff {she'll panic without those, and she can carry two dolls in her arms}. 4 sets of clothes if I can fit. A few books as possible. her tablet and phone if allowed. My suitcase: 4 sets of clothing. Meds. Important papers folder. Chargers. Reusable feminine care supplies. Kindle. As much of DD's homeschooling items for the year as I can carry. Phone. And that reminds me I wanted to digitize all our old family photos and upload them to dropbox.
  22. A friend posed this question to me earlier today. I thought it'd be neat to see what the HIVE would choose. You have one hour to pack for immediate relocation in the Witness protection program for your entire family. For a while after relocation you may not be able to shop or be in public. What would you grab and why? Assume that you'll continue to homeschool after relocation, btw. ETA: Let's make it tougher. Assume a limit of one duffel bag or medium suitcase per person.
  23. Freedompop. I paid $30 once, and get 500 minutes and 300 texts free a month along with 200mb data. You do either have to have data on or connected to wifi, but these days it's very easy to surf free wifi networks while out. And combined with google voice it works great.
  24. Checking in. Rescheduled my plumbing visit, so I have more time to clean. My other visit isn't gonna happen this month so I'm not feeling very inspired to clean tbh. I did get the entryway completely done yesterday And the dining room halfway. Since I'm not in such a rush I think I'm going to slow down and go back to sorting out things for Goodwill. And doing a full deep clean of each area. I need to get some doormats if I can this week. I realized a LOT of grit and stuff is getting tracked in the doors. I think a mat inside the back door and one both inside and outside the front door should help a LOT.
  25. Today is gonna be an intensive clean. And I didn't get much sleep due to things. So we'll see how this goes. But it's gotta get done before 8am tomorrow
