  1. If it were a real estate transaction and you had two bidders, you would tell the 1st person that you got another offer and would they care to raise their offer? I appreciate your obligation to the first buyer - but, maybe she has a little more leeway in her purchase price and you could raise it to a point where you are both comfortable.

  2. lay out the cash. We bought only a 1970's house - not even an 1880's - and it needs remodeling. Gosh, this is the kind of thing that really eats up the money. Thankfully my husband has learned so much about woodworking/wiring/plumbing, we are able to do so much ourselves. BUT - it is still expensive - feels like the money pit.

We still have 1 bathroom (ours and it is huge), the kitchen (can you say OUCH that's going to hurt), the basement (needs only things like carpet and minor stuff - but is still money) and then, a roof, siding, and a deck that is 1400 square feet! (who builds a deck that is 1400 sqft??? and we need it, it wraps around the house). Not to mention landscaping that is in dire need. We figure we're still about $75K out from being done. Fortunately, we underpaid for the house, we live on 6.5 acres in a rapidly growing area and the house is huge - so hopefully we'll more than get our return!

Just be sure to think about money. I'm not sure I would have gone through all this if I would have realized at the time (not to mention that it is such a SLOW process - I am impatient to have it all done NOW!!)

  4. I like David Cook's voice, I think he is a good talent - but I can't stand to watch him. He really bothers me - I don't know why - he seems so arrogant and condescending.

On the other hand, I think David A. is just as cute as a button and seems so sweet. He really outperformed David C. tonight in my opinion, although I like David C.'s songs better to listen to - but David A. did what he had to tonight. I think - who knows>?????

  5. I have used ABeka with 2 kids. One went k-5th and is now in Lial's (and doing remarkably well - he is in 6th - will finish Lial's in about a month)

The other is my 2nd grader - both boys. I love their math program. Whenever I tested my kids after the year of ABeka - they really were accelerated, due to the pace of what they were taught! It was more difficult for my eldest ( he is on the young side for his grade), but it is cake for my youngest (he is on the older side). I can't believe how far into multi. my 2nd grader is - and he is certainly capable!!

We don't do 6th grade - we will also switch to Lial's when youngest gets there.

  6. I use chuck roast - and it is always tender without adding water/or any other fluid.

I put the roast in my crock pot, add a bunch of diced onion, sprinkle with boullion crystals (about 1.5 tbsp), dash of salt and some pepper. I put it in at about 9 am and cook on high til about 1, then I switch it to low and let it finish until dinner. This is falling apart fork tender, no knives needed and it is VERY moist. We are quite picky about our meat around here and this is fabulous!!

  7. The only difference that I think is important, is that you have a stainless steel one, rather than aluminum.

I use it to cook chicken for cooked chicken recipes (cooks in 15 minutes!), potatoes for mashed potatoes, pre-cooking ribs to grill (they are so tender they fall apart), one pot meals (potatoes, green beans and kielbasa cooked for about 13 min. is a favorite around here).

You can do so much with one, just make sure, PLEASE MAKE SURE, that you release all pressure before opening it. Take off the valve (or other pressure keeping device) and make sure it doesn't steam or make the whooshing sound any more. Otherwise you will be wearing boiling hot food and be very badly burned!

  8. my sister swears by cranberry juice. Be careful, though, it needs to be 100% cranberry to do the job well and most are cocktails or juice blends. You really have to label shop. Walmart carries 1 kind where I live and it is a very small bottle - need to flood yourself. Also, buy Azo-Standard. It really helps with the discomfort!

  9. You start with level 1, even after LC2. If I remember the whole discussion properly, there are 3 levels of LP, then there is one last level (and I can't remember its name) and with that final level, would complete the high school requirement for language. I think if you have an older student, and you are hoping to study something else in h.s., you could easily cover 2 levels in one year if you did 2 lessons a day (they are pretty short).
