  1. They start with multi=year resources, then go down to multi-unit resources, etc. They do this for all learning levels. I don't think there is an annotated list, but perhaps you could make your own after printing these lists out? hth

  2. I really balked the first time I looked at ToG. Yes, I loved what I saw, but "Oh, My Gosh!!" Very expensive.

That was last year, and last night I just bought it - complete with all the little extra goodies (Popquiz, lapbook, etc.) I took more time to do more research and when you spread it out over the 5 topics it covers and for me ( I have to dc) divide by 2, it really isn't that bad. Maybe you could buy it used?

Right now I am having the same problem with BJU Life Science - this is our most expensive year of schooling. One 7th ds and one 3 rd ds. Yikes! But it is still cheaper than one kid at our inexpensive private Catholic school.

You get what you pay for sometimes! (At least that is what I am telling myself!):tongue_smilie:

  3. How do you choose which books to order? My library has a TON of the books (Thank you, God!), but am still considering purchasing $120 from Amazon. After spending all I have on ToG, does that sound like an unreasonable amount? I am relying heavily on the Library.

For year 2 I am purchasing:

    The Everythig American Presidents book

    Our Island Story

    This Country of Ours

    Te Struggle for Sea Power

    Our Living Constitution

    Colonial Living

    The Ancient Celts

    The Gift of Music

    Almost Home

    Why Not Lafayette

Am I missing something awesome? Or can I just get this stuff and be pleased with the library? I looked at some of the literature selections, and I'm sure my son can cruise through the ones on the Dialectic level, so I didn't need to buy them if the library had them. Any suggestions for additional must haves? Any that I can remove from my list? thanks.

  4. I went through my library database, and they literally have about 75% of the books needed for year 2. What would you specifically buy? Primary resources - things that look like resource books and not lit? There is just so much! Or should I just buy things that the library doesn't have? Thanks.

  5. HI, I am ordering ToG year 2; this is my first time with ToG.

I am unclear about what is left to order. I am going to the Bookshelf - and I am able to access Primary Resources, Multi=level books, individual unit's books, etc. I thought that I shouldn't be able to access these areas without a purchase? Are there more books to purchase if I do have access to these areas? I see where I am quickly going to be up to around $500 with purchases/ excluding ones that I have available at the library.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  6. Those experiences made you, you. Your life as described is definitely not the "ideal." But, look how you have prospered with your faith, your son and your current life. Everyone makes stupid choices at one time or another! With mine happening so much in my early years, I kinda hope I have my "stupid" choices all used up and maybe all that is left is smart ones!!

Rejoice in your current life and be thrilled that you "made it." My husband had a really amazingly bad upbringing. He is so successful in his personal life as well as his professional life!! It is amazing to see how God has led him to where he is. He (God) sees us through!

  7. I went directly to the BJUP website, as I was looking for HomeSat - which I didn't find incidentally.

I was really confused about what all I need for 7th grade. I see the kit includes TM, StudentM, Testpack and Answers. I really want to do all the dissection, but it looks so ala carte! Are the kits from other science places that are made to accompany BJU fine? I think it is like $100 or so for the whole pack. Also, a biology lab dvd is $50! Is this necessary? (I'm sure it is nice, but without alot of lab experience myself, could I still do without it?) Could you please just break down what I need to order for me? It looks as if it could run in the $300 range for one kid for science, is this what you are paying?

Also, for grade 3 if I choose to use BJU, other science catalogs mention a dissection kit. I saw no reference to this in BJU's website. They did offer a bunch of sciencey type kits (make a radio, motor, etc), do they mention in the curriculum when to add these kits in?

Sorry to feel so dense. I am actually considering calling the company directly tomorrow, because I am so lost. Thanks.

  8. "Ha, this lady has taught for 2 years! And is feeling confident and her child is succeeding - what does that say about me? I went to college for this and have been teaching for "X" number of years - and we are on the same par! Maybe I"m not as great as I think I am if it is this easy to do my job!!

(of course I am not saying it is easy) Congratulations on your hard earned confidence!! Wish me luck - I start tennis lessons tomorrow!
