It's truee that the grass isn't always greener, huh? We love our CLE and even though we run into an occastional road bump, we're sticking with it for math and language arts!! Thanks for the update :-)

My 6th grader began using CLE lang arts last year. He actually does quite well with the way the program is structured and complaining is minimal and not at all related to the way the program is designed. I've heard some moms who have had the very same problem you described. While CLE is a good fit for many, it isn't for everyone. I definitely wouldn't split up the lessons into two days. It would take you too long to get through the program, as you mentioned. Perhaps it's time to throw in the towel and try another program. If CLE didn't work for my ds, I'd try Growing with Grammar (which has had rave reviews). I'd then go with Spelling Wisdom from SimplyCharlotteMason.com and I'd pick one of the writing programs that I mention on my blog. (See "Choosing a Writing Program" in the sidebar.) Not sure if this helps. Best wishes and let me know if you have more questions.
