  1. No, I don't watch with him. I am thinking maybe he is just missing picking up on something like you said. Thanks. Good to know you've been through it 3 times without issues. Did you also use their Geometry?
  2. We use Native Remedies Focus ADDult and Triple Brain Tonic. No one here is officially diagnosed but my son and dh seem on the inattentive side and say it helps. It's a little pricey though.
  3. If you have done a woodworking elective before how many projects did you include and what types? Dh is a furniture maker and his shop is at home so I'm hoping just to figure this a number of projects and hand it over to him. Thanks
  4. I do plan on writing them if it keeps happening. I will update if I do.
  5. Are they any VT users still out there? Ds is saying that some of the steps for the problems are not mentioned in the video only in the example. Ok I said make sure to pay close attention to the example. But this last time the missing step was shown in the next lesson's video. He spent a long time trying to figure it out. Is this going to be an ongoing issue with modules E and F? He likes it otherwise. But if you switched at this point, what did you go to and how did it work?
  6. Thank you, your reply was very helpful. He is "behind" in math, but catching up. He does work slowly and gets still confused with borrowing in subtraction and lining up long division. He is strong with visual spatial skills and I could see him happy as something like an architect. He designs and draws a lot.
  7. Bad phrasing. What are high school level ways that they can show they know the material.
  8. Thank you, good tips. We do have Bard from the National Library Service, just this textbook isn't on any of the systems. This looks great, thanks!
  9. Ds is 12 and still working on reading. I finally gave in and started Barton after tutoring and I'm glad we did. But this year I'm reading out loud the whole of History Odyssey and looking ahead thinking there's no way in reading his high school textbooks to him! What should I know to plan for high school level work? Is it realistic to ask a dyslexic teen to write research papers and essays? What are the ways to show they know that's appropriate for that level? Thanks in advance, I'm asking lots of questions this week!
  10. title pretty much says it, thinking about this for my middle schooler.
  11. Thank you. I think the Reading Like a Historian has longer primary source documents. What did you do to finally get him writing. I think I may need to outsource to get him writing reports.
  12. ok this makes sense. Thank you. Mine likes physics but he's not going above and beyond. I may just shelve this idea but still check out the practice tests anyway.
  13. I did not mean I thought just taking the class was enough prep. I know we'd need to use a review book and take practice tests. I was just hoping people who actually had their dc take Clover Creek physics and took the SAT subject test could chime in how it went. First reply was helpful. Thanks all.
  14. ETA: Changing the title and adding in since I did some more research. Would this be enough for a World History credit: Reading a chapter of k12's Our Human Story each week, pairing with Great Courses lectures The Foundations of Western Civilization and History of the Ancient World: A Global Perspective and having him do the questions in the guidebook as either a discussion or written response and using Reading Like a Historian for written output when it lines up with the chapters? It seems that the Reading like a historian asks for paragraph length answers I am confused with how much output is enough. Ds is not keen on writing. Would this be enough if I am not assigning essays or research papers? Thanks
  15. I meant Clover Creek, didn't realize it could be taken as Community College Sorry for any confusion. Which one did you mean and why?
  16. Anyone have any feedback on taking the SAT subject test in physics after their dc completed Clover Creek Physics. I am impressed with the class and think it's very solid. Ds is getting a low B so far so I am wondering if it is worth it to take the subject test.
  17. Hi, every year I organize a Tales2Go group buy and we are purchasing/renewing this year 2/4 to 2/19. Tales2Go is an audiobook streaming service. You can view their FAQs here. A link to their catalog is here. I will not be posting the sign up link publicly. You can join my FB group or send me a PM and I will PM you the link and discount code when it becomes active. I do not collect any money, everything is done through their site. Thought this board might find this useful especially for the dyslexic kiddos 🙂
  18. My son would rather things be no frills get it done too. Is there a difference between the CDs and the books? ETA: I think I figured it out. The books are the teacher's edition and the CDs are the student copy.
  19. Good to hear. I'm thinking about using that syllabus too 🙂
  20. I'm in planning mode hoping to find something for US history. I'd especially like to hear about any online options but would love to hear about whatever you are doing . Anyone have rants or raves about their choice this year?
