  1. The author of BFSU also hosts an on line support group: BFSUcommunity.com/ (at no charge). Users of BFSU know that there are many places in the text of each lesson where it is suggested that you Google ____ to find additional supporting information: images, videos, diagrams, etc. At BFSUcommunity.com you are able to click through to any lesson where you will find direct links to the best videos, supporting information, etc. that I have been able to find. Additionally, each lesson provides a space where you can post questions, leave comments, or contribute additional items. I keep a watchful eye on BFSUcommunity and try to address any question or problem within a day or two. (Rules prohibit posting ads or solicitations.) I invite all BFSU users or anyone else to come and explore BFSUcommuniy.com and register as you wish. I apologize that registration is a multistep procedure and I have to give a final okay before you get in. This has been necessitated because of spammers seeking access. This said, I hope you will find BFSUcommunity a benefit in using BFSU. Also, one of my fans has created a BFSU Facebook group that you may be interested in. It is: https://www.facebook.com/groups/308651699340117/permalink/1311845535687390/ This site goes without input from me.
  2. Please be aware that there is a no-charge website for supporting BFSU users. It is BFSUcommunity.com When you click through to a given lesson, you will find a list of aids for the lesson. Such aids include: key ideas of the lesson that deserve emphasis; direct links to videos alluded to in the lesson, and other such items. The intent is to make presenting BFSU lessons more efficient and less arduous. The site also invites users to post comments, ask questions, add additional material you find useful, or make suggestions.
  3. What state are you in? I ask because questions asked will be line with your state's science education standards. I suggest you Google "______ (your state) science standards". If your state is one of those that has signed onto NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards) these standards are easily found by Googling "NGSS standards". Once you find the science standards for you state, you can orient your kid's study toward those standards, whatever they are. Bernie Nebel
  4. Sorry for the transgression. I will keep this in mind for the future. Bernie Nebel
  5. Each lesson in "Building Foundations of Scientific Understanding" (BFSU) (Nebel, Outskirts Press) includes a list of readings/age-appropriate books that correlate with the lesson. Such readings might fit your needs, as well as presenting particular scientific ideas and concepts.
  6. I don’t really understand the difficulty of “not being able to get lessons done.†The very process and essence of science and scientific thinking is in the “not done.†Every investigation leads to more questions, more avenues to explore, more connections and implications to recognize. It is this that makes science an ongoing pursuit, and it is what enables parallel technological development. In short, lessons should conclude with dangling loose ends that invite further questions, and contemplation. It is such reflection that moves new learning into longterm memory and makes it the basis for rational thinking. Conversely, finishing a lesson into a tidy packet with no loose ends to invite further questions and reflection, and not revisiting it may become a recipe for forgetting. I hope we explore this issue further. Bernie Nebel
  7. The second edition of BFSU, Vol. II is now available ($34.95 or less). Unfortunately Amazon has it in a hidden location, which I am trying to fix. You can find it on Amazon by typing into the search, Elementary Science Education: Building Foundations of Scientific Foundations 2nd ed Nebel. The cover is very similar to the old edition. Be sure you are getting the one with the cover picture of three children sitting around a table. Likewise, know that you can join BFSUcommunity.com (no charge) where you can find direct links to all the graphics that I suggest Googling and post questions, etc. besides. Bernie Nebel
