  1. If there are art supplies you think might ruin the walls/furniture in their room, and/or it's mainly used downstairs, keep it downstairs.  My dd did her carpet in with nail polish and acrylic paints.  (Secretly I was glad she did use them in there, as she was artistic and mom was probably going to say no to the extra art projects. haha.  It was worth replacing the carpet to me.)  All their toys were stored in their rooms.  Not to say they couldn't come out, but the main mess was in their room.

I'm thinking whatever they have in their attic room will probably be used there most of the time.  Maybe you want to store board games and such downstairs so you play together more often.  Same with art supplies.  My kids each had their own bookshelf, but most books- which weren't really 'theirs', were downstairs where anyone could get them.

  2. A fooler, is the yarn game.  Everyone cuts off a piece from the skein, but aren't given any other instructions.  Many will pick a longer piece, assuming it's to measure the mom-to-be around the middle.  Instead they have to introduce/talk about themselves as long as it takes to wind the yarn around their hand.

  3. Downtown walking Broadway at night would be the main reason to be downtown.  If you're not planning on doing that, I would think any hotel would do.  Downtown parking is a bit pricey, too, but we had a blast there.

We also visited the Carter House and Carnton sites in Franklin and got a great feel for being there in the Civil War.  If you're into history, check them out.

The Sonic (burger drive-in that used to have the gimmick of servers on roller skates but they haven't done it for years) in our town is operating on limited hours (10 am-8 pm) because they can't get enough workers. But I don't think it is related to Covid relief checks here.

Also, the Sonic here has done so well $$$-wise during the pandemic. They've had record sales since last March that only slowed down in the last few of months when sit down places opened up to more business.

Our local mom and pop summer only burger joint decided to stay with carhop service only this summer.  The long lines there continue!

Dh heard that roofing shingles are going to maybe run out and be unavailable

And younger people- millenials?- are more interested in having flexible hours and time off than working long hours for more money.  They don't expect to have as much as their parents.

  6. We have been back at church for several months.  Still sitting by family in every other pew.  This last Sunday most were still masking.

My small group started back meeting in garages a few months back without masks, and even had a potluck a few weeks ago.  We're not asking who has and who hasn't and are comfortable back together.  Perhaps you'd like your small group to start by meeting outside seated apart?

I haven't seen it yet, but they only enrolled about 2200 kids, presumably half are placebo.  Hopefully they will separate the subgroup out by age in vaers.

That's what I heard.  And the risk for this age isn't very high without it.  I'd want to wait longer.

You can ask for it, but I suspect most contractors will be a bit insulted, shrug and say they're now too busy to do a half job and are booked out for months.  Whether they are or aren't.  Chances are the high prices have more to do with materials than hours anyway.  I know in more than one house we priced something out and the contractor's price was slightly less than we could do it ourselves, because he had discounts for materials and the labor was less than the materials discount he got.

They are probably booked out quite a bit.  Finding time to do a smaller job is probably not a priority with bigger jobs pouring in. We recently got new carpet, and even they were out a month for installs!  Even the subcontractors are probably booked out. And it is true that the price of materials is going  up quickly.  Dh has heard that roof shingles will be scarce this summer, too.  You could ask for the partial quote, but I'm thinking you may be pushed farther down the line.

  9. Our bedroom was the catchall for 20+ years.  Now that we are empty nesters without a dog and are redecorating, we're going in for simplicity and pretty.  I know I'll read on the bed sometimes, so I went for a darker colored spread.  And the  three extra pillows I bought several years ago just 'make' the room.  Dh has even been putting the two fancy pillows and the shammed pillows back on the bed when he makes it.  And he's finally taking his shoes off before stepping on the new carpets.  Yes!!  It's only been a couple weeks, so we'll see how long this lasts.  🙂

Ok...now I am so jealous...I've never had Dave's but everyone raves about it....it became a big thing after my son was diagnosed with Celiac so we haven't been able to buy it. (we keep a gluten free kitchen except for some premade tortillas my husband stashes on top of the fridge).

That said, homemade whole wheat bread, or part whole wheat, is so yummy. A cheap bread machine makes it easy. Use WHITE whole wheat, not red. Makes all the difference in the flavor. That taste that you don't like is the flavor of the red wheat - which is more common. White whole wheat (called winter white) is totally different. I used the recipe for whole wheat bread machine bread from King Arthur flour - that's the best one.

Now my favorite is half white and half red wheat!  Tastes kind of blah without the red.  😉

Does anyone know of a clean series on Roku or Prime in Spanish that I could watch? I hadn't thought of this before but I could do that while I am exercising. It would probably really help.

My favorite guilty pleasure--Velvet.  I speak no Spanish and had to read every line, but I watched the whole series. lol  The actors and the fashions- they were dress designers- made this show something I couldn't stop watching. lol

    And now I see there was a 2 season spin-off I'll need to find.😉

No advice, but thank you for posting this picture - I've just been researching cellular blinds and these look great.

These were ordered at the Menards store.  Dh had no problem putting them up!  They were 25% off on sale.

I am not worried about things getting banned, but yes, I am saving stuff. I have a hard time getting rid of it. I have the space to store it and I have been able to act as a kind of local curriculum library for my homeschooling community. I feel like it is my way of giving back.

My plan has always been to have a homeschool lending library.  I have some boxes of books in the garage that were donated for that, and I am finally ready to go through the rest of my books.  Really wish the homeschool community here owned a place to have a library.

Will definitely keep the literature in my personal library.  Dd is in school to be a teacher, and we had a blast finding books from our collection for the various categories she needed each week.  In the end, the only type I didn't have were hispanic.  Fixed that right away! lol

I am ready to start sorting through the rest tho, and getting rid of some homeschool books.  It's only been three years since dd graduated. 😉

  14. Forgot we still have the secondhand cherry bedroom set from 43 years ago.  Did swap out the bedframe (full) for a queen with a matching headboard.  Just lent one of the end stands to dd for her new place, and am putting the large dresser mirror in the closet for the first time so the room feels less cluttered.

My mom's still using pots and pans from her wedding in 1955.

  15. Lots of stuff.  Still have the bridal book with the gifts, shower games, and other games listed.   Just threw away the crockpot from 1978 when it stopped working.  Kept the last dishtowel from one aunt, wore the others and my original bath towels out.  Blender and utensil jar are from my maid of honor.  Still have two of the three of the set of Corelle casseroles.  His aunt worried that they'd break.  Only lost the big one, which is fine for us now. haha.  Have been busy buying pieces of silverware as the garbage disposal must have destroyed a lot of it with kids doing dishes over the years.  Decorative items are still in use- plate from my aunts, afghan from his mom, planter from a friend's mom shaped like a tree with our initials on the back.  Seldomly used, but three crystal bowls we got are in the glass cabinet.

My mil took me shopping and we picked out a coffee table that I still love.  I went back and got a couple round end tables to match.  We got the card table and chairs-- which have been heavily used through the years, the following Christmas.

  16. I have a pine cabinet in the kitchen where I store the bags of spices and other awkward sized items until I can use them to refill the jars in the spice cabinet/shelf.  I also have the cookie making extras here, sprinkles and such.   I have some dark blue jars from supplements that I want to build a spice rack for, where all my most loved spices will be in identical jars.
