It's a necessity if I go to the store alone with my 4 children who are all young and all very close in age. One is strapped on my back, one is in the seat, and two are in the basket with constant reminders to sit down because I don't feel like cleaning up brains that moment. As for the tall women feeling weird around short women, it depends on who it is. Sometimes I don't notice but other times I'm like, "Hey, you reach my belly button! Now I feel like a clumsy giantess...."

Maybe stainless steel? I'm allergic as well and the hypoallergenic ones still make my ears hurt after a while.
