  1. We were just gifted 2 games that we already own, so I am going to return them and get something else. Our kids are 9, almost 8 and 5 (a VERY early reader), so I am looking for ideas that all of us can play and yet not be too annoying for mom and dad. It doesn't need to be educational...just something fun to play during family game night. We'll probably have about $35 to spend...if that makes a difference. Thanks. Kathy
  2. Has anybody here ever owned a tent this size? What is your opinions...good and bad?? thanks. Polaris 12 person family camping tent - The Camping Equipment Company - Family camping tents and We are seriously considering getting this for our family...we just don't know much about a tent this size...so we are looking for expereinced pros and cons. Thanks. Kathy
  3. they said that if you have the revised books, the audio may not be compatible with them. For what it is worth.
  4. When I started homeschooling, I had a 1st grader, 2nd grader and a preschooler...and we started FLL. Since none of the kids had been exposed to grammar, it worked just fine.
  5. This fall I started with workboxes and they were working great. But over the course of the fall months, I discovered that I was not liking all of the time I spent filling the boxes, looking for things to fill the boxes, buying things to fill the boxes, filling boxes just to fill the boxes...so I ended up feeling like I was doing one of the very things I was taking my kids away from in PS...(ridiculous busy work). So then I ended up doing what I call the binder system...where all of the kid's paper work (spellling, math, handwriting, phonics) goes in a binder and they do that. I filled each binder on the weekend, divided it by days and then it was all together, very neat and organized. Then we would play games, or do History or Science when all 3 kids were done. But I still feel like I am running around like a chicken with no head...so then I revised it yet again...now I work with one kid at a time, and the other two have various assignments...sometimes its a game to play together, or one reads to the other, or they do a project together. Life seems calmer...I can give each child undivided attention (mostly...more than before)...we get through our binder work faster, leaving more time for other stuff. I think I am finally content (at least for the moment).
  6. Not trying to pick a fight or anything, but does anybody know the long term effects of it? Also, if it is a natural sugar substitute, where does it come from?
  7. I have used bestdealmagazines.com before with good results. I have also use discountmagazines.com.
  8. one of the reasons I started this thread is my kids are using R.E.A.L. Science and they have kid pages that come with the teacher's stuff. I have 3 kids, and so I was having one child use what comes with the Teacher's stuff and was going to copy for the other 2 (it says I can do that within my family, so I am not breaking copyright laws). I could also buy extra sets of kid pages for $20 as set (the cheapest I could find)...so I was trying to decide if making my own copies was worth $20 a set. I know some workbooks are as cheap as $8 a book...but this is a little different...what do you guys think???
  9. I have heard differeing reports on this product (some say it is the best thing on the market and others have said, not so much)...what have you guys heard about it. I am always a little nervous about putting "factory made" sweeteners...but what do you guys think???
  10. I have often just thrown ours into the dishwasher...I figured the hot water and soap will clean them up just fine....and we have never had a problem with a soapy taste or anything afterward. I have heard of the hydrogen peroxide solution before.
  11. My husband and I only take Vit C and Cod LIver OIl. My kids get a Mult. Vit. and extra C when they are sick or we are going to be with lots of people (just to build their immunity a little). I know that Cod liver oil is really good for them, I just haven't found a way that they will take it...I am on the search for that though.
  12. for those who use the Nordic Naturals and the Carlson, where do yo buy it?
  13. Does anyone here have a great way to get cod liver down your young kids? I know how important it is to their health, but I can't afford to buy a bunch of different gummy or chewable vitamins in order to find one that my kids will take...they are picky...and my son with sensory issues has an easy gag reflex. So any help would be great! Thanks. Kathy
  14. I couldn't even begin to read all 26 pages of this thread...but on the first page alone, some VERY hard, but true facts appeared and I now have my solid anser to my own question...I buy the materials I plan to use and I actually USE them...not just copy them. Thanks so much for sending this link. Kathy
  15. Buy workbooks for all of your kids or make copies?
  16. these are all great ideas....but most of them are not available right now...I sure hope if I watch and wait patiently, they will become available soon. thanks for all of the ideas!!!
  17. We also have a gigantic tent like this coleman basecamp tent that we take when we take my mom camping - ours is much older. We have had two queen sized mattresses in it plus two kids in the middle. this one looks great too. THANKS!!!!
  18. thanks for the last two ideas...they look great....Sparrow...do you remember about how much you paid for this one?? It doesn't have a price on amazon.
  19. Here I am sitting in my warm livingroom, with over a foot of snow outside my windows, looking at tents on line for next summer. I was wondering if anybody out in WTM-land would be able to help me out. We need a tent that one queen air matress and 3 twin air matresses can fit comforably and even give us room to move...a little...and have room for a suitcase or two. Does anybody have such a creature? and if so, what brand is it, what size, where did you buy it, etc. We weren't sure if this is the time to be looking for something like this...or if we would find just as good of buys later in the spring....any thoughts on that too?? THANKS!!!! Kathy
  20. What version of Battleship did you get? I looked at the newer (octogon shapped board) one on Amazon and it got horrible reviews...so I was wondering which one you got and if you think it is good version of the game.
  21. don't forget Valentines Day gifts, St Patty's day gifts, groundhog day...:001_smile:
