  1. I also don't like the rock band experience at church. DH is in a rock band with friends, so it's not about the volume, or the style. It's about what we feel is appropriate for worship. We have accapella singing (another alto here who really needs the notes, please) in our church, but we have also been to a Lutheran service with an organ and orchestra that we loved.
  2. I strongly suspect DS has it, and I feel like it's time to get a proper diagnosis. However, I have no clue where to go. What are my options?
  3. I'm in Texas. OSU is definitely Oklahoma State around here. :) A friend lives in Tennessee. For her, UT is University of Tennessee. Living in a family of Texas Longhorns, that's just... wrong. :)
  4. Thanks! I found the registration spot on their site. Should I do anything else besides register there? Is it helpful to call first? I notice they have a place to put a start date. We would want to do the flexible pace option somebody mentioned, but I don't see a place to specify that on the registration form.
  5. This has never happened to me before, so it's really thrown me for a loop. Thanks for the medication plan. I assume you're talking about ibuprofen?
  6. I wondered if it could be a perimenopause thing, so thanks for mentioning that. Oh, the joys of getting older. Nothing between periods, thank goodness, but I will definitely get this checked out.
  7. You and me both. I was just using it to by some time, though. I'm probably going to have an ablation. That may have just moved up on the calendar. :)
  8. I do have a prescription for that. The first month I took it, it was fabulous. This month, it's hardly helping at all. I did stop taking it. I really don't like taking medication, and it didn't seem to be doing anything.
  9. I think my husband would feel better if I did something like that. He's never seen me like this, so he's concerned. I think I will make an appointment.
  10. I really doubt that. I was about a week early. And yes to your last two questions, but that is not unusual for me for the past year or so.
  11. I can't think of anything I could have done to pull a muscle. I haven't even exercised this week.
  12. I did have a checkup back in November, but I don't know if that's something that would show up in a regular exam. Something to consider, though...
  13. Okay. I can't believe I'm asking this here, but I've googled and don't really have anyone else to ask. I'm 46 years old. My cycles have been all over the place. Long, short, heavy, light, you name it. I'm pretty sure all that's my age. However... I started a few days ago and this one has been a doozy. I've had the worst cramps I've ever had in my life. Now, the cramps seem to be over, but I have pretty bad pain in my abdomen. It's like exercise-induced pain - like I overdosed on sit-ups. Sometimes I can't stand up straight because of the pain. DH is wondering if I need to see a doctor, but I really don't know. Is this leftover from the cramps? Anybody experienced anything like this?
  14. How much lead time do you need? Do you sign up for each semester separately? I've seen "$250" mentioned. Is that per semester or per year? Thanks, and sorry if these have been answered a million times already.
  15. I did, but I definitely don't think it's required. I just thought it was a nice thing to offer. I never expected it at weddings I attended with my young children. Of course, I probably hired my own sitter and left them at home. :)
  16. I went and looked it up on Amazon. The cover no longer appears and it is "temporarily out of stock". I don't know anything about the publishing company, but they need to be smacked upside the head.
  17. The high school near us starts at 7:25. It gets out at 2:25. This allows them to stagger bus routes and for extracurricular activities after school. Elementary and middle schools starts later. How long is the school day for your local high schools?
  18. I am so sorry. A good friend is a foster mother and I hear a lot from her about the system. It is seriously broken. {{hugs}} to you and your kids.
  19. We won't be doing any other Biology classes (just Chemistry and Physics) after this year. Will we still need it? I plan on selling it if we don't.
  20. I do believe it works for some children, but it doesn't work for them all. I think what got me about her statement was the assumption that every homeschool child is capable of straight A's. That is just not true.
  21. DS is a B and C student. DD is an A and B student. DS's grades reflect his ability. DD's reflect her effort (or lack of it, in some cases). Both are indicators of what kind of students they are and what they are capable of (in a very simplistic way, of course). I heard SWB speak this summer and she talked about transcripts. She mentioned that transcripts should be ordered by grade (9th, 10th, etc.), rather than subject. Her reasoning was that this could show that, while a student struggled as a freshman (or longer), they were eventually able to bring their grades up as they got older and matured. I'm hoping DS's transcript will eventually show the same thing. :) I was at a "how to homeschool highschool" meeting a few years ago. One of the moms said, "Since we teach to mastery, homeschool students should have all A's." I have to say, I don't agree with this statement. One, I don't throw out original grades. If they didn't prepare properly for a test, I will give opportunities to bring up their grade, but that original grade is going to be included. Also, I don't think we are doing our children any service to teach them that you can always re-do things until you get it right. College professors are not going to go along with this, and neither will their boss. I do try to make sure they understand topics before we move on, but that does not always equal an A.
  22. Thanks! I was wishing it was still available. Now I have a decision to make. :)
  23. I love the movie, and it's a great picture of the Russian Revolution. However, Dr. Zhivago's relationship with Lara is not something to be admired, in my opinion. He was married, and to a very nice woman (from what I see in the movie - maybe the book is different).
  24. I've been working on losing weight for just over 2 years. I've lost 40 pounds and have another 15 to go. It's been slow, but I'm going in the right direction, so it's all good. :) I'm doing WW and exercising.
