  1. We take one day a month off for fun activities. It might be a field trip, or a co-op party. For months with a birthday, we take that day off. Including my birthday. :) 2 kids and me, 3 days off. We don't take off many PS holidays, so I feel like it's okay, even in high school.
  2. Thanks to both of you. I have a good idea of what to expect with the time now.
  3. How much time should I allow for dissections in our schedule? We're doing DIVE Biology, so we'll be doing the following: earthworm crawfish frog fish pig Thanks! I've only dissected a pig, so I have no idea how long this will take.
  4. I've been on one cruise and it was seriously the most relaxing vacation I've ever been on. You can choose exactly how active you're going to be. It was fantastic!
  5. I grew up with a guy who had younger sisters who were twins. I would swear they were identical, but they were told they weren't. About a year ago, one was diagnosed with cancer and they all had matching testing done. Turns out they were identical. (very sad, actually. The one with cancer passed away shortly before Christmas. sigh...) My boy and girl are 17 months apart. DD (the younger one) was always very tall for her age, so we were always getting asked if they were twins. I told DH it would be easier to just say "yes", rather than explain why they were so close in size. Nobody ever asked if they were identical, thank goodness. That kind of thing drives me crazy. Boy-girl twins are obviously fraternal, if you have any idea what the word means. If I had twins, I'd be curious enough to have the testing done.
  6. I'm tempted by PL, but I know myself and I won't keep up with it and then I'll get discouraged and think bad things about myself. :) I do try to take the concepts and scrapbook more about everyday life, which is my favorite thing about PL.
  7. I have never washed a ceiling and I never plan on doing this. I'm irritated enough that I have to dust the wall panelling in my den. No way am I washing a ceiling.
  8. I did it 2 years ago and am still running to this day! When I started I could barely run a minute without losing my breath. I was truly miserable. It is amazing how quickly your body adapts and grows stronger. It is an awesome way to begin running!
  9. DH always wanted to name a girl after his granny. He adored her. I wish I'd gotten to meet her.
  10. I have a Ruthie, as well. She's named after DH's beloved Granny, who passed away before we ever met.
  11. Yes, and it all pretty much started with my dad. Or maybe his grandfather (who I never knew). So... Great-grandfather Robert my Dad - Robert his nephew - called Bobby, but named after my dad (by a sister his was very close to) my brother - Robert (named after my dad, of course) my son - Robert (named after my dad, got my brother's permission to use it) my sister's husband - called Bob, but named Robert (not after anybody in our family, of course) Not as bad as your family, but still makes for some confusion at familly gatherings.
  12. Yep! Right there with you. I took a chance and bought him something for his electric bass, but I'm sure he'll take it back because it's not the right one. Sigh... The items he wants are so very, very specific and he refuses to give me a list. One year I got him a Leatherman and that was a hit. Oh, and one year I got him a tool belt and he liked that as well.
  13. But as long as I don't have my photos set to "public" (and they're not), I have not given Facebook permission to use them (according to their own policy).
  14. The way I read it is that it only affects Instagram photos, not all Facebook photos. I have photos on Facebook, but none of them are from Instagram. Am I wrong?
  15. Are you doing the work yourself? We've been working on our master bath for several years now. We went one full year without a tub! We also just have a bit of painting to do, but haven't touched it in weeks. The delay in finishing the bathroom is one of the reasons we didn't even attempt the kitchen reno ourselves. It was nice to have people that could devote all day, every day, until it was done. And those instrument stands are awesome. :)
  16. The dust was terrible. I feel like I'll be dusting for months. Totally worth it, though. :)
  17. 4 weeks. And that included Thanksgiving and losing 2 days because our granite installers were arrested on the way to our house (unpaid tickets). We were amazed at how smoothly it went.
  18. It was completely gutted, all the way down to the studs. Before: After: I love it!
  19. I loved Barbie when I was little and had no problems allowing my DD to play with her. However, she really wasn't interested. She never cared for dolls. She played with her stuffed animals like other girls play with dolls.
  20. Same here. I did select "R" for receipts, but this is actually how we do it. Our files are alphabetical in the cabinet, but they are all categories, not letters of the alphabet.
  21. We pretty much fit that. 4 people, 3278 sq. ft. It helps that housing is very reasonably priced here. In many areas of the country we wouldn't be able to afford this home. Honestly, I'd be okay if our home was smaller. My house is too big for me to keep clean. Our previous home was 2000 sq. ft. We were more cramped, but I could get that thing clean, top to bottom, with no problem.
  22. The Middle Parenthood Vampire Diaries Doctor Who Sherlock Everything except for "The Middle" is on Netflix streaming.
  23. Eh. Some of those seem like they could be actual indicators. Others seem very random.
  24. I usually make an assortment of candies and cookies. However, I can't find my favorite cookbooks (they've gone missing since our kitchen reno), so I need some ideas. Share the recipe if you're so inclined. :)
