  1. So is the Book Basket list more like the catalog of VP, SL, HOD, Biblioplan etc.? *I'm* curious how the book list equates to VP or TOG?
  2. I've been reading articles lately on the decrease in creativity and problem solving (not purposely, just seem to gravitate towards them lately). I stumbled upon this today from WSJ. Very interesting...
  3. Hurrah! Its a great program isn't it! Thanks for sharing your story. :hurray::hurray::hurray:
  4. Well, the ipad app is neat...but I'm so disappointed! Augh! Sorry for getting ya'll hopes up :tongue_smilie:. BTW, I think I got on the mailing list by ordering at the convention. I always order when I go in may, that's the only way I can think of how I got on their list.
  5. I don't know whether to :lol: or :grouphug::grouphug: !! I do know that my youngest two have been by far my biggest challenge. I do find as the time passes and they mature and can REASON better. I'm not saying they don't have to be obedient to no is no, etc, but the maturity helps. And some days, I give up and sit on the couch and read and snuggle, or finish the puzzle, etc. with them. Sometimes just letting her sit next to me and color or do a worksheet or puzzle while I'm working with another child helps too. This daughter is horrible with naps and the such, so she can really be a drain if I don't keep her day structured. I hope things get better for you, venting does help! :grouphug:
  6. And the saga continues...I got this today from Rightstart Math. There is EXCITEMENT in the air... ... as we wait for the SURPRISE arriving on December 15th...
  7. I too was thinking of posting this article, very interesting. There seem to be very few that actually give up doing both. It certainly brought me down a notch. We are using Phonics Road, where the first four levels deals with grammar and Latin Roots, but moves into Latin and English Grammar. Her method, by her own admission, will not need additional grammar. Yikes! Interested to hear what the hive says...
  8. I'm glad to hear you say your sticking with it PR for now, I think PR is truly a great program and like Mrs. Beers told me at a convention, it is designed for homeschoolers. You have a great product in front of you! I sure wish I could see your year 3, I can't wait. We are so close to finishing year one and I am so anxious to start yr2. But we are at a good stopping point and will just have to start in January though. Thanks for asking great questions!
  9. I used Beautiful Feet with my young kids. Here is a link to how their programs work for different ages. It worked great and was definitely literature based and Christian.
  10. I love this idea! whoops, it didn't quote right, but I love the idea of the labels for the younger bunch.
  11.:lol: I hope it is the pre-algebra level too! I'd love to be your friend! :D
  12. I would definitely introduce real books, Sonlight has good ideas for readers. We started with something fun: "Cat in the Hat." I had intentionally never read this book to him, so he really enjoyed it. We just read a few pages a day. Don't worry, you've got this! Your using solid tools to teach with, just keep going!
  13. I got my regular email from Righstart Math with this at the bottom: Something BIG is coming soon. WHAT COULD IT BE? Any thoughts? I've always heard they were suppose to write a course that goes with Geometry, but have always been told she's finished writing. Anybody know anything?
  14. Hi Katrina, It's funny, I was just looking at my old posts, all my struggles with PR, Rightstart, and history, there for me to see when I want to be reminded how much things change :D. What you can't see is all my notebooks with "time" charts I made showing me how many minutes I would save by going with XYZ curriculum instead, and even further, I have the pros and cons list too. All that to say, I had to walk away from PR before I really appreciated it. I think you ought to give yourself a break and work with something else YOU feel would simplify things till you figure it out. I really hear you saying you want things more simple. You have a few options. Some time ago you mentioned Spelling Wisdom, what if you used it for a while? You could keep the SWR rules and ABC and All their Tricks handy and as he makes spelling errors he can writing it in his notebook WTM style. Other options are AAS or workbook options like CLP spelling book. One of the things about copywork/narration is they don't do much writing "on their own." So its hard to see where they are in spelling. The SWR has a "test" in the back that you could give him to help you tell what grade he's spelling on. When I finally came back around to PR (and I ditch it twice), things came together and they have been going good ever since. I did have to ditch it a few times :D to figure it all out though. I'm not saying PR is right for you, but that teaching our children is more that just a learning experience for them, its for us too. With PR we are learning something we've never been taught before, but we've been doing our whole lives, and having to be student and teacher, well can make me a little cooky :willy_nilly: at times. I found myself asking the same questions as you and struggling just the same. I'm just here to testify that if you keep reading and keep praying things will settle out. I also found taking a break from the forums help tremendously until I solidified my decision. In other words, I had to get alone with my thoughts about my kids, what I knew, and where we should go. :grouphug: Melissa
  15. That's exactly what I wanted to know! Your a gem! This information is hard to find online. Thanks so much for posting the info you did, I am grateful! Wishing I could buy your TOG, I'd love to get my hands on one to take a good look. Sometimes it just comes down to that. I'll have to pass though, tight budget :glare:.
  16. Thanks for that link, it's very helpful. I do wish they would publish what they use from Norton's every year, it would help so much to compare.
  17. Thank you both for this information. I've looked through both of these and they give me a lot of information, still trying to get a compare to Omnibus. Maybe some are *hidden* in the Norton's book for TOG. Thanks so much!
  18. I am trying to find out by searching online, which Great Books TOG uses. I am having a hard time. I know they use Norton's, so it's hard to tell. The Omnibus list is so easy to see, wondering if TOG does about the same? My husband and I have been discussing these two, he's really sold on the Omnibus and I like how TOG is organized :D. I too like the great books in Omnibus, but I get the feel that TOG doesn't do as many. Can someone point me it the right direction? Thanks a million. BTW, I'll cross post on the Middle School board.
