  1. I had an argument like that with my cousin. She didn't want gun control because it wouldn't stop rape, abortion, drunk driving, etc. No one ever said that gun control would solve all problems. It wouldn't even stop all shootings. But, if gun control could slow down our absolutely unacceptable level of gun violence in this country then we should give it a shot. And no - I do not want to take away your guns so don't even go there.
  2. The thought of owning or holding a gun makes my skin crawl. For the life of me, I can't see the attraction.
  3. I love my representatives!
  4. I love my representatives!
  5. We have been there a few times, the last time we went the mosquitoes were like nothing I have ever seen. We drove to a hiking trail, got out of the car and it literally looked like a cloud of mosquitoes. We almost couldn't see through them. We all jumped back into the car as fast as possible and swatted mosquitoes all the way back to the hotel. We spent most of the weekend in the hotel. There was an outdoor pool which was OK as long as you didn't come up for air. We haven't been back since.
  6. She wouldn't dream of quitting as she really believes in her candidate and is having a great time working on the campaign. I was just hoping to be able to use it to check off the community service requirement (in my mind).
  7. OK. Thanks for the answers. I was just wondering if colleges would consider it community service and since reading more about it, it looks like the answer is no. Too bad.
  8. Dd has been volunteering for a campaign and everything that I have read calls campaign work an extra curricular. Dd really doesn't need any more extra curriculars but she really needs community service. Can I call it community service?
  9. I don't use a hair dryer and I swim so my hair is always wet. People just usually ask me how my swim was. I have even had people tell me that I look great with wet hair. As with everything, just carry yourself with confidence.
  10. I agree with your son. Climate change is terrifying and will lead to much greater problems than a few people having to move. I have read several articles which point to climate change as a factor in the start of the Syrian civil war. I think that the problems that their generation will have to face are extraordinary. But I also see what my kids and their friends are capable of and it is stunning. I frequently tell my brother that our kids are so much cooler than we ever were but that is an understatement.
  11. I tell my kids that their generation is amazing (which is true) and if anyone can solve the problem, they can.
  12. That was one of my favorite books of all time!
  13. We have had many Sunday parties because that is the day that everyone can come! Sundays are family days for us. Brunch and then something fun with the family. I guess we are the other half. I never thought of it that way.
