  1. I actually think I found the answer on the 12,948th page I've read through on the college's website. :hat:
  2. I'm a year away from this experience and already agree with every word you said, OP! I watched the Sunrise, Sunset video... I shouldn't have. :crying: :crying: :crying: I've found that recently I've started pushing dd away-trying to separate the two of us and minimize the eventual pain when she's gone. DH is the total opposite, clinging to her every free moment the two of them can muster. *sigh* We are both going to be a solid mess when the first one leaves the nest!!! Might not be able to let the other three go!
  3. I had thought it was just their local IRL classes that had NCAA approval previously and not their online courses. Maybe I'd just misinterpreted what I read, though. :)
  4. There are some classes locally, but all the classes conflict with our schedule. So/ looking for some ideas... It doesn't have to be a formal curriculum. We want something that will help the kids with interviews, Q&A sessions, etc. they have Zero issues speaking publically, as long as they have a script or notes of some sort to guide them. I'm hoping to help them with those spur of the moment types of things (a QA session after a public presentation, for example... Or weird questions you are asked during a scholarship interview)... Thinking on your feet is not our strong suit and I am beginning to see some issues. We will probably work through whatever we find as a family. :) I did buy a set of Tabletop questions we are going to start using on the evenings we are all home together. :) But that's the only idea I have had so far.
  5. I did not plan to - but then a few scholarships and a few colleges dd is considering actually use weighted grades during the consideration process. So I revamped her transcript to include both weighted and unweighted scores.
  6. -deleted question- Thank you for the replies, they helped! I looked around at a lot of other clubs nationwide and many offer a similar program as dd's club, so I am less apprehensive about it now. If I put the info in the wrong place, I have the paperwork and documentation to go over it with the NCAA on the flip-side and I'm sure it will all be okay.
  7. Lovely post, thank you. Yes, everyone is walking their own path. :)
  8. Another point of interest (dd1 has recently started looking into this career as well) is that (for the universities we looked at, at least) none of those specific curriculum requirements can be from AP or CLEP credits. They must all be actual classes taken at university. So, even if she finished AP Bio and Physics and Psychology and took Chem at the CC, she would have to take them again (not an issue of you've chosen a bio-heavy major, but she was looking at something else entirely, so even with AP credits, she'd still have to fit these classes in).
  9. I feel the same way - and I agree. Even their question about "curriculum" was weird... do we use Alpha Omega, or Bob Jones, or Apologia and a couple other very random choices. It was bizarre. I view the class as a supplement as well and with that viewpoint, dd hasn't taken any classes that are similar to that of an online public school where the teacher/school has control of the grade, assignments, and official transcript. OK, I feel on much more solid ground now. Thank you, OP, for starting this thread!! :) I can finalize the information now without fretting! :)
  10. This is what I'm concerned about - jeopardizing dd's chances. :willy_nilly: When we signed up for the online class, NCAA was nowhere on her radar, so I didn't think twice about it. Midway through the first 9 weeks, I realized that she may want to participate in this sport in college, and started reading about the NCAA stuff. That's when I started making my own assignments to coordinate with her AP class, so that I had my own syllabus and lesson plans in case they were needed for the NCAA. So hopefully that'll be good enough. ðŸ˜
  11. Yeah, this class isn't listed. Since I'm only using it as a supplement to dd's class on her transcript, I don't feel as obligated to claim it. But, man, they make this more morally murky than it needs to be. :( For a program that requires something like a 19 on the ACT, they sure are finicky about the AP-level classes my child has taken. -_- PAHomeschoolers is listed, aren't they? Or is that just for the people who go through their diploma program?
  12. But one of the specific questions they ask is "Did you take any online courses?" And then they ask for a list of which classes and the school information. :/ This is where I'm struggling atm. DD only has one course I'm concerned with - and I have listed myself as her instructor for that course and I gave her additional assignments through out the year, so I feel secure with listing myself as the teacher.... But when they ask directly if she has EVER taken an online course... I have to say yes, yes? :/
  13. ITA about practice=speed, but we usually do the whole test at one time, which hampers said practice. I TOTALLY hadn't thought to give her timed tests by just a section or two at a time. We could fit a LOT more practice in if she doesn't have to wipe out a big block of time each day. This is why I love this forum! So many ideas that my brain is too set in its ways to think of on its own!!
  14. Background first: DD is bright, but a slow reader/comprehender. She has been like this her entire life and we've structured most of her homeschooling around that fact and it's just never seemed to be an issue. We've NOT done regular standardized testing throughout her school years (a decision I woefully regret because this problem did not become apparent until it really mattered). She is a rising senior and has taken the ACT one time, where she earned a strong score, but is taking it one or two more times (Sept & Oct) to improve as much as she can. On a whim (trying to see if her score was due to lack of knowledge in some areas, or simply running out of time)... I had dd take a practice ACT, allowing 10 or 15 minutes more per section. ------- She scored nearly a perfect score in every single section. So, after this experiment, it appears it's a time thing. She needs to speed up by September!! :driving: Mainly hoping for tips for speeding up the Math (she's rusty on Algebra... almost any problem she missed were in this category & she ran out of time on the test) and on the dreaded (for a slow reader) Reading Section. Drill/review books or online sources? I did buy an ACT Math-specific book she's worked through to review the Algebra, so I think she'll be better on that come September, but want to continue practice/drilling because I'm sure that Calc will drive all of that right out of her head come August! (and I feel kind of bratty asking/fretting because her original score is a solid score, but, dd NEEDS a scholarship & a generous one at that. Period. So, "good" isn't quite good enough... she needs a couple/few more points before we can relax. And meanwhile, she watches her more affluent and/or only children friends being finished with ACT testing with considerably lower scores than her own, never taking any AP classes, and focused on totally relaxing and having easy senior years. They're all applying to big university schools with high acceptance rates and the parents/grandparents funds for each of them is... generous. They are very fortunate, and yet, don't seem to realize it, so they keep nudging her about why isn't she finished/happy yet with her scores and nagging her about working too hard... :/ Blurehgalkdjlkjga! It's amazing how many different PATHS there are to the same education. lol)
  15. I read your original post, but just now had the time to reply. I'm in the same exact boat. DD is plugging along, working her hind-end off and I'm in the background, chewing my fingernails (figuratively, lol) and second-third-fourth guessing every single decision I've made since she was in 1st grade. I truly feel that 100% of the POSITIVE things are dd's alone. HER accomplishments, HER achievements, HER hard work... But those things I'm wondering about/worrying about now... man... those decisions were mine and mine alone. No one else I can pawn it off on. And, man, there are one or a dozen of those.
  16. I didn't know that podcasts were still a thing!! Great thread!!
  17. Wonderful, thank you guys! Some of the questions were on our list, but quite a few were not. I'll have dd look over this later today so she can see which she wants to add to her list. (Most of these visits will be pretty much one-on-one. We'd have to make another trip for the group tour, and that won't be possible in most of these situations due to time & distance constraints. So it's just dd, myself, and college representative and/or coach wandering around looking at things, listening, and talking. :p We NEED a list to keep us talking!! lol DD will be going back in the fall to some of the schools to visit as an athlete, and she'll possibly be 100% on her own on those visits... so these current visits, I need to get in anything I'm needing to ask in person!)
  18. Common Data sheet is exactly what I was looking for (thank you!!!) - but through this thread found many other great things to add to my search list! Thanks!!!
  19. I read about it here --- you can google "Whatever-University thisword" and it will bring up a data sheet with financial information, student information, etc... just a page with a lot of data about the school. But, I didn't jot down what it was called, and now that I can't remember, I can't search this forum for it (since I do not know the name of what I'm trying to search!). Argh! Hopefully someone will understand what I'm asking about and can help. :)
  20. As a senior visiting a school and as the parent tagging along? DD#1 has a couple important visits coming up very soon and we have our own list... but we are all (parents included) brand-spanking-new to this adventure. I've asked before about the parent's role in a college visit... DD went on one short visit last week and the people there seemed to be expecting her (and me! I was trying to hang back and not nose in constantly... but they seemed to really expect me to be asking dozens of questions!) to have more questions, so now we are both a little perplexed. There is SO MUCH we don't know... we don't really know where to begin, I think! lol! So - is there a "College Questions to Ask for Dummies" list here? :) Both questions to ask during a tour/visit and questions to ask/find out from administration or the registrars or someone else I am not even aware of at this point? Assume I know nothing. :) Because it's very possible that I don't know half of what I think I know about this process. ;)
  21. I can relate- we had a remarkably similar experience. I'm heading to bed now, but will pm you tomorrow. It does get better with time.
  22. I have a senior this year. At this point, we are both a bit :willy_nilly: :willy_nilly: willy-nilly and crazified over this whole thing. We've laughed a lot, hugged a ton, stayed up late a lot, yelled at each other a few times, and cried a little. She's got the tightest apron strings, so we're both struggling to disentangle from one another so it won't be so bad all at once. This year is going to be one heck of a ride. :crying:  :grouphug: :lurk5: DH is convinced we're both going to need therapy when it's all said and done. ;) I am going to miss her terribly. It'll still be good, of course.... different, but good. But, my oh my, I am going to miss hugging her in person multiple times a day, and hearing her crappy music throughout the house, and seeing her unfinished (and mostly forgotten) knitting projects all over the house... *sigh*
  23. Thank you for that - maybe we will be able to eliminate the comp Sci/art credit, then! That's what she'd really like to do, but I was afraid of having fewer 'subjects' on the transcript & read conflicting things about how many high school credits a college course is worth. She usually juggles 7.5 credits and this will be her first time with dual enrollment and I know the foreign language will take a lot of time... Could the Psychology go too and add in a half-credit art class? Then she'd have 7 credits, yes?
