  1. our ds is just 4 and wants to read, he has been nagging at us for months about it, but he has speech delay, he has the vocab of a much older child but the sounds of a very young child, so the two dont match iyswim, he gets frustrated with phonics, because of the sounds, and i know he will learn them later on, we were thinking of sight words etc, as this i hope will ease the frustration, he also likes to do things fast, and has no patience (age thing, boy thing!) can anyone recommend any systems, programmes which are not phonic based, or readers, we have bob books and the like, but they are sounding out ones! thank you for reading :)
  2. hey all just trying to get ideas together for time and frequency that people spend on 1st and 2nd grade? thanks in advance :)
  3. thank you for your reply, am i missing anything?
  4. we are using fll1/2, phonics pathways, ort reading books, ss spelling, hwt 1, and literacy year 1 (which dd hates) this year. my question is for next year i am going to continue fll1/2, pp, spelling, hwt, so would adding in llatl be worth doing as well? or would you recommend another programme, i think i am looking for something which involves literature, and lots of talking about good books, and about grammar! thanks for all your help x forgot she is 6 but will be doing year 2 work iyswim :)
  5. We do little lessons from 5 to 15 min blocks and we do about 12 to 15 lessons a day so it takes about 1.5 to 2.5 hours a day. Plus we do trampolining, cheer leading, gymnastics, art group, sport group and another homeschool group.
  6. i agree with this one, all of my kids like this one and it is really light and short :)

  16. thank you for your replies, its so nice to know that i am doing nothing wrong! my friend gave me a list of 500 words, and if they can spell these, they can spell most words, so we are working through them at the moment. also can i ask when do you put your children upto 1st grade? is it when they turn 6, the september after they are 6 when they are ready and if so how do you know???? i know i ask a lot :( thanks mt3 x
  17. hey all my dd1's writing i think is okay, she can form all her letters, and does some letters in a cursive way, but we do not follow a curriculum, because a we dont have much money and b i dont know which one is any good. she writes the date, 5 words i say (so she spells and writes), and a sentence from her reading book. so she only writes 3 lines a day, is this enough? should i be using a curriculum? is this alright for her age? any advise please
  18. we emailed them and said we were a homeeducating family and they emailed us back the password, the older levels i have heard are better than the younger years, we were using year 1, but stopped as dd1 didnot like it so we plan on using it as a guide for me more so, and picking it back up in a couple of years.
  19. we are on our first rotation and on sotw1, but we will be using it for the second rotation, as dd1 will not remeber it by the time its the second rotation, and we have been using the ag but left alot of it out, so when we do it again i will have at least 2 younger ones, so this will suit them all :)we love sotw here mt3
  20. my 5.5yr old is the same, so alternate and do 1 week phonic pathway, 1 week bob book and then 1 week jolly phonics this way she does not get bored or frustrated, and she gets a more wide covering on phonics, we also have fun with phonics dvd which they all love, when i have not a lot of time :) we find variety is the key to not getting frustrated :) hth
  21. we are still new to all of this and we only have the usborne book, but dd loves it, we also have the usborne first encyclopedia of history, which is excellant for her age it only has 64 pages but is internet linked, and she loved seeing her name writtern in ancient sumerian! for younger children i cant recommend it highly enough :) hth
