I thought about starting her in B, but I think it would be too easy for her. I guess I was just worried about reading Canterbury Tales and The Great Gatsby. Those seem difficult to me. I am probably not giving her enough credit. I don't have a grammar program. We just finished Bob Jones English 7. It was so boring and easy for her. I was wondering about the specific method. That is why I was wondering if 9-12 would be too hard for her since she is used to the WWS way of doing things. She likes the idea of doing the IEW British Literature... I'm not sure if I want to teach it or not. I didn't know there was an option of having the kids go through the dvds...

My daughter (13) will be in 8th grade. She finished Writing with Skill 1 this past year and did very well. I want to switch to IEW, but I'm not sure what to buy. I checked out the 9-12 grade stuff - it looks intense. I think she would be able to do it if she had been in IEW before (knowing the lingo and such), but I'm unsure if I should just throw her into it or do a prerequisite like they suggest - Windows to the World. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Early Modern Reading List for grades 5-8?

Thank you so much! I hope more people chime in. I have Around the World in 80 Days and Last of the Mohicans on my list. -
We just completed Apologia's Physiology and Anatomy book (my 4th grader and 6th grader did it together. It was fine. This was our second year of Apologia (we did Astronomy last year) so the notebooking activities were kind of a bore - same layout - questions, crossword, fact sheet, mini book, and project. We are trying BJU online science this fall. I'm thrilled that they will be able to do it independently. It is expensive though.

Caesar's English - Is 7th grade (bright student) too old?
foofoobunny replied to foofoobunny's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Thank you all so much! You've talked me into using CE :) -
I decided to scrap spelling and start vocabulary with some root work for my dd (12) this coming school year. She is an excellent reader and has a great vocabulary. Would CE be too easy for her? We have never done any root studies. Should I start with CE1 or CE2? or go with something else like From the Roots Up? Thanks for any insight!

Ugh - 7th grade - Spelling, vocabulary or neither?
foofoobunny replied to foofoobunny's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Good idea... -
At this grade (7th), do you continue with a spelling program? or drop the spelling and go to a vocab program? or neither? Especially if your student is a bright and reads frequently... We've finished Spelling Workout and I don't know if I should continue, switch to vocab or let it go.........sing with me...;)

We are going to try Bob Jones Online Science in the fall. We've done Apologia for 2 years and my kids need something different. I've heard wonderful things about the class!

We went to observe a CC group a couple of weeks ago. We observed Challenge A and Foundations. The tutor for Foundations is moving up to teach Challenge A in the fall. The problem I have is this - the tutor for Foundations was a sub for the original teacher who was off because she had a baby. The tutor had 2 of her sons in the Foundations class, and the class was WILD. There were 6 boys and 1 girl, and her boys were definitely the instigators. She would often say, "pay attention," "stop talking," but they completely ignored her and caused the other boys to act up too. It was NOT good - talking over the teacher, not paying attention. So, over at the Challenge A classroom, it was a dream - loved it! However, the tutor for that is moving to Challenge B and this lady that was subbing Foundations is teaching Challenge A next year. This was her first year is CC, but she did CC at home with her kids for years. Her boys will be split up next year. One will be moving to Challenge A and one will be staying in Foundations so there will be a different dynamic. What do you think? I think it is steering me away from joining. Would it affect your decision?

I am considering Classical Conversations for my 5th grader next year. Hoping you get some more responses! -
Thank you for the Duolingo site! My kids really like it so far! My oldest was doing it after school hours the other day!
