  1. This will be our third year using it - love it!
  2. You are supposed to do warm up, fact sheet, and problems each day. We either did warm up OR fact sheet - not both. It's just too much for one day. I taught the lesson, my daughter worked on the warm up (or fact sheet) and then the mixed problems independently, and then I checked her answers and we went over incorrect problems. We only did practice set problems (the handful of problems right after the lesson) if I thought she needed extra after teaching her the lesson. If so, we did those together.
  3. I'm used to the separate book with worksheets/factsheets for Saxon in the lower grades. No for Algebra 1? My dd would be loving this...
  4. Thanks all for your help. I gave her test 4 today and she missed 2 problems. So that is a 90%. I'm going to give her the next test test and see where she falls. We will be skipping at least the first 20 lessons of 7/6. I looked at AoPS. I'm not sure she is ready for pre-Algebra. I could be totally underestimating her though...
  5. My 11 year old 6th grader has always breezed through math. I feel like we should have skipped a grade in the lower levels, but I never did because I was afraid she would "miss" some important concept. We use Saxon, and she just finished up 6/5 with almost a perfect score on all the tests (she got all 95 & 100, except for one 85 on an off-day). She hardly missed anything on her daily homework (a big contrast to my 7th grader!!) I'm thinking about just testing her through 7/6 until she stops getting A's on the tests and start at that point. Is this what I should do?
  6. I'm considering his French class in the fall. He has also offered to tutor my daughter this summer. I was just wondering what his personality is like with kids? My daughter is a little shy around men and thought I'd ask here about how he is personality-wise. Thanks!
  7. We used WWS1 in 6th grade and the first half of 7th grade on a relaxed schedule. It's a really good program. My daughter is a MUCH better writer. That said, I'm not using WWS2. We are switching to IEW.
  8. Thank you both! I was confused as to why some subjects and not others - makes sense now.
  9. Thanks. How come it counts for math and foreign language and not history? Story of the World is just a supplement for us as my daughter likes to read it along with our main text. I definitely wouldn't consider it for adding to the credit hours.
  10. How many hours a week do we need to spend on history for a high school credit? My daughter is in 8th grade and will be reading a chapter in Biblioplan, the related chapters in Story of the World, will complete an advanced level (high school) map, answer advanced (high school) chapter questions, and take a test each week. Do we need to add more? Thanks!
  11. Here are my online choices: My daughter (age 11, going into 6th grade) has completed the first 5 chapters of So You Really Want to Learn French. So, she's not new to it, but definitely not ready for the big leagues. Currclick - $180 per semester; slow-pace, large class size, good reviews The Potter's School - $430 for a full year, .5 credit (does she need this and will she use it on a transcript for 6th grade??) The Classical Learning Resource Center - $150 per semester, small class size Any other choices out there? Any reviews good or bad on the above? Thanks!
  12. Lord willing, we are going to start Analytical Grammar and IEW.
  13. I don't have any suggestions as we usually just read SOTW along with Biblioplan and do "reading" not related to history. I just wanted yo stop in and say that I love Biblioplan!!
  14. Well, I'll definitely be buying Getting Started With Latin. Thank you all so much. Is Lone Pine a lot of work? I really don't want her to have to spend anymore than 30 minutes per day (i'd like less) on Latin homework, not including the class. I don't think she could handle it as science, math, history and writing take up several hours.
  15. I talked to one of the ladies from the company, and she told me to start with SIW-B because my daughter has no previous experience with IEW format (she did WWS). She linked me to a page to "ramp" it up for her if needed.
  16. Math - Saxon 7/6 English - Analytical Grammar, Caesar's English Writing - IEW Vocabulary - Sadlier Oxford Vocab. Science - BJU 6 History - Biblioplan Modern History Foreign Language - French (Potter's School or Currclick) Logic - Fallacy Detective Piano lesson, violin lessons Art ?
  17. We used WWS in 7th grade, and we are going to use IEW for 8th grade - I've heard so many good things about the program.
  18. She has had no previous experience with Latin. She's 13 and will be in 8th grade this fall. She's an A student. What online classes would you recommend? I am NOT teaching Latin. Veritas Press? Classical Resource Center? Potter's School? Something else? Any positive or negative experiences welcome. Thank you so much!
  19. We did Rod & Staff for 4th and 6th grades. Bob Jones is supposed to be pretty advanced, but I think Rod & Staff is moreso. I'll have to check out Analytical Grammar and Stewart English. Thanks.
