I'm looking for fun French games or something online to supplement our French curriculum. This is our first year, so easy stuff! 4th and 6th grader. I already have LanguagesOnline.com marked.
Thanks!
I thought I saw a schedule here for matching up SOTW Middle Ages with Human Odyssey. I've searched and searched and can't find it again. Can someone direct me? Thank you!
I'm really confused about a history program for my 4th grader. She enjoyed SOTW Ancients last year so I thought of using SOTW Middles Ages this year. But the age level on it says grades 1-8. I don't understand how the program can be appropriate for that big of an age-range. Also thinking about History Odyssey Level One but it is grades 1-4. I don't want her doing simplified work. Does it get more difficult as you go through?
Could she do History Odyssey Level One - but what books to go with?? SOTW? Kingfisher? Human Odysessy?
Wow, if you don't agree with what the op wants to teach her kids, stay out of the thread. I think it's nice she wants to teach her kids modesty.
I don't have any ideas for a curriculum.
Tentative plans:
Math - Saxon 5/4
English - Rod & Staff
Spelling - Spelling Workout or Rod & Staff
Writing - Writing with Ease
History - History Odyssey with Story of the World
Science - Apologia Anatomy
Reading - Books from history curriculum or some classics
Foreign Language - ? Spanish or French
What do you think is more important in choosing a foreign language? Student interest or practicality?
My girls (4th & 6th) are interested in learning French; however, I see more practicality with Spanish. The amount of Spanish speakers in the US are continuing to rise dramatically, and my oldest wants to go into medicine. I see Spanish as the obvious choice.
On the other hand, I doubt they will ever be fluent in either language so maybe I should just go with what interests them?
After searching for French curriculum here, Galore Park looks pretty good.
Thanks - I did order History Odyssey earlier today because I've fretting over it for too long now, and decided I needed to see it for myself. Then, I came across Human Odyssey - I liked the big texts but didn't see any students study guides.
Thank you!
Is this it?

It's just a big reference book, right - like Kingfisher? It's not a history program with directions, questions, maps?
If so, what program do people use with these books?
Thanks so much. The more I research history programs, the more confused I am :(
I decided on WWE (4th grader) and WWS (6th grader) for this year. Do I need to purchase the instructor manuals too? I'm a first-timer to this curriculum so would it help or be a waste of money?
Thank you all so much. It is SO hard to get past the Curriculum Police!! I'm such a rule follower!
I think I'll put my 4th grader in Level 1 with Story of the World (she loves that book!) and try my 6th grader at level 2 and hopefully she can work independently.
Wow - good to know! I've never heard of Classical House of Learning.
Could I do Level 1 with one kid and Level 2 with the other or will that be too much work for me? Is Level 2 fairly independent?

My 6th grader will be doing level 2 of History Odyssey. Could my 4th grader sit in on it too or would it be too difficult? She's very smart, but not a child genius!
Those of you that use History Odyssey, do you use their writing activities or do you skip those and have a separate writing program? If I chose Writing With Skill, how would that work if I used History Odyssey?
