  1. How do you order just one subscription? It says a minimum of 10. I ran into this issue with Scholastic News also. My dd would love these; but I don't need 10!
  2. Thanks for the ideas! After searching, it looks like Memoria Press is the one I am going to use. Of course, I'm sure I'll change my mind several times before truly choosing. ;)
  3. I've got a reading comprehension curriculum for dd; but I wanted to get something for classic literature. She reads more of a 4th grade level than 3rd. I'd like something with answers keys also. I won't always read the whole book like she will. Which ones are your favorites?
  4. Just wanted to let you know that ScienceFusion is 40% off at HSBC only through May 2nd. I ordered it myself; but have not used it before to give feedback. It is secular too.
  5. Thanks guys! The good news is that I can just ahead and buy it now!
  6. I've got almost all of next years curriculum purchased except for History and MCT. I am tempted to buy it now; but would like to get it on sale. Has it ever been on sale or on HSBC?
  7. We are going to use StartWrite for teaching cursive. I like the idea of being able to pick your own font, the amount of dots for tracing, or arrows to show steps/directions. You can put their full name on it and make up sentences about things that interest them. They could even type up their own worksheet!
  8. It appears as though the leveled readers are included with the homeschool kit. :D Scroll down on the "Digital K5" Tab http://www.hmheducation.com/sciencefusion-homeschool/overview-homeschool-kit-components.php
  9. It is online and text and hands-on. I am pretty sure the majority in online.
  10. WOW! I wonder if this is just for schools or are what the hs package includes also. I LOVE the list of leveled readers you can just pull up as a pdf. I find it odd it lets you in without a password though.
  11. I'm not sure exactly how secular it is; but it is listed as an option for the site "The Secular Homeschool Community" http://www.secularhomeschool.com/content/591-Science-Fusion-New-Energy-for-Science
  12. Ah, that's a good idea. This will be our 1st year hsing so these tidbits help a lot.
  13. Me too! I like having the different resources as far as the text, the online, and the hands-on activities. I haven't committed to buying yet because I can't decide on the start date. I thought it might be a good idea to start over the summer instead of waiting until August 15th. Regardless, I will definitely be buying! :001_smile:
  14. Here's a couple more links: http://www.hmheducation.com/sciencefusion-homeschool/science-textbooks-grades-k-5.php http://www.hmheducation.com/sciencefusion-homeschool/science-textbooks-grades-6-8.php
  15. This link shows you 60+ pages of the text - http://www.scribd.com/search?query=Science+Fusion I had a rough time finding information on it too. The link in my prior post has a video and a description. There is a link to the pacing guide this is 3rd grade - http://www.hmheducation.com/sciencefusion/pdf/ScienceFusion_Gr3.pdf If you go to the grade you want and open it; there is a pacing guide for each one towards the bottom. HTH!
  16. I've been looking at this for awhile and I found out a bit more on the HSBC site. It is online, has a write in text, a digital TE, hands-on activities, a pacing schedule, assessments, and it is secular. It is 25% off right now and will go to 40% off if over 50 people agree to buy it. Oh, and they offer 4 different start dates for the online portion starting with May 15th. Just thought I would pass it on for those still looking! https://www.homeschoolbuyersco-op.org/index.php?option=com_hsbc_epp_order&Itemid=1703&c=1
  17. There is one that you should NOT use if they have dyslexia - Spelling Workout. Due to the way they teach by showing misspelled words and having them unscramble words it makes it very confusing for them.
  18. I found this to be the best place to see a sample of what you get http://www.scribd.com/search?query=Science+Fusion. You do get a printed text also. I can't wait till HSBC has it discounted!
  19. We are going to use this for my upcoming 3rd grader. If you go to http://www.scribd.com/search?query=Science+Fusion you can scroll through and see each level. The download sample is pretty extensive and will give you a good idea of what is covered. BTW, Homeschool Buyers Co-op is going to offer ScienceFusion at a discount very soon; up to 40% off.:001_smile:
  20. Whoops, I meant to mention that I didn't really want to use SOTW.
  21. I can't seem to make a decision with history. I am leaning more towards textbookish; but all the 3rd grades are geared toward communities and not history. I'd love to find something that had comprehensive questions with the answers provided. It doesn't need to be totally secular; just not have bible versus and such in them and not avoid certain historical information due to the particular beliefs. I looked at Core Knowledge History and Geography but I don't know if there are any comprehensive questions or a teacher guide. Has anyone used CK and liked it? A bonus would be if it covered Greece, Rome, Mali, explorers. She did Egypt and China this year and I don't really want to repeat too much. I'm not asking for too much; am I? :tongue_smilie:
  22. I checked my order and it says 5 business days.
  23. We avoid dyes because they cause ADHD symptoms in my dcs. We also avoid artificial flavors and preservatives (Feingold Diet). Making a LONG story short: my ds was a meds for 3 years and had issues with all the meds. I knew he was sensitive to red 40 and had taken him off already and then yellow dye followed. After following Feingold for 2 weeks I took him off meds. All the classic ADHD symptoms came back. I put him back on because it was SOL testing at school. Four weeks later I took him off and he hasn't been on since (4 years). He is perfectly fine as long as he avoids all the petroleum derived additives and corn syrup. If he eats something he shouldn't, all the symptoms come back for four days. It's worth a shot to dig deeper.
  24. I had this in the back (or middle) of my mind for history and science. This will be our first year of hsing and I thought it might be something familiar for dd and take a little burden off on my part trying to piece things together. Also what I have chosen is big $$ compared to a textbook. What textbook would you recommend for History and Science for 3rd grade?
