  1. Are there such things as cards for historical figures and scientists? Kind of like flashcards? I have a president flash card set, but I want some that have scientists and other historical figures on them.... Surely there is, I just can't seem to enter the right search term in. Thank you!
  2. I disagree that a Will is always the way to go. My mother died in Florida intestate (without a will). She had a condo and a truck. She had debts. My brother and I were her only heirs. We hired a lawyer after her death to handle the court filings. Some of her debts were cleared on death (non secured loans). The condo and the truck were deeded to us in both our names. We arranged with the mortgage company to continue payments. The process took 6 weeks. What happened after. What my brother did. Now THAT was the awful part. But her dying without a will wasn't the tough part. But, I digress. In some states it's awful to not have a will, I get that. I was only making a point to know your states laws. And do that. Love your children enough to make your passing easy, not trauma on top of trauma. OP: Hugs. I'm sorry for you and your family's loss.
  3. I just saw a GI nurse practitioner and she said this: some people have lots of luck with apple cider vinegar with mother and some don't. Besides that, I would go with small meals, eat non-greasy foods, keep your head up for an hour after meals, find your trigger foods and avoid those, and use tums when that doesn't work. Also, yogurt works because they're a probiotic? If that's it, then there's plenty of "pill" probiotics out there - I like the gummy bears the best. But I change up my probiotic all the time. After some GI tests, I was on three different ones. I hear that the liquid ones found in health stores are the best. Best of luck. Heartburn and GERD is painful.
  4. There's something out there on the web called Magic Mouthwash for sore throats. You mix a teaspoon of Benedryl and Maalox together and gargle. It's supposed to work well, I've not tried it. Also, Honey tends to coat and soothe. I heartily concur with all those above who have said to call the doctor back. I hope EVERYONE in your house is better soon!
  5. My husband would like to listen to audio books while he drives to work - about 35ish minutes each way. However, the truck he drives comes with a radio but no cd player and no audio inputs. He drives a company vehicle so we can't make any permanent modifications to it. I have at my disposal: A kindle fire and an iphone. I would not feel comfortable suggesting to him earbuds for listening while driving. So.....any ideas?
  6. Ha. And now the Washington Post has an article that is really all over the place, but the basic idea is that the cases in Brazil may be inflated. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/worldviews/wp/2016/01/29/brazil-may-have-fewer-zika-related-microcephaly-cases-than-previously-reported/ Quotes from the article: and then and then I'd say that there's a long way to go before any of the reasons for this becomes evident.
  7. Well, my point all day has been that I just think that there are too many unknowns and coincidences to blame this all on a virus that so far has been mostly benign. I'm hesitant to say that this recently updated Tdap vacc that they mandated in 2015 is the cause. I'm also hesitant to say that the GMO mosquitoes that they released in early to mid 2015 is to blame. I'm also hesitant to say that the Zika virus mutated in one spot, that the mutation not only survived into offspring, those offspring with the mutation bred rapidly enough to cause 4000 microcephaly cases across a wide span of Brazil and Colombia. And you're not dense. At first I was sorta poking fun at the Tdap and GMO correlation....but now I'm sorta poking fun at the Zika correlation too. Seasider: Zika, as far as I understand it, was discovered in Africa sometime in the late 1940s or early 50s. And has over the last 60 years or so made it's way to tropical regions across the globe. There have been outbreaks before, but never has there been an increase in microcephaly cases with the zika virus.
  8. Link to a map showing where all the babies have been born. http://outbreaknewstoday.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/brazil.png Coincidentally, GMO mosquitoes where released pretty much right in the epicenter: http://www.oxitec.com/press-release-oxitec-mosquito-works-to-control-aedes-aegypti-in-dengue-hotspo/ Question: IF this GMO mosquito has really reduced the population of the mosquito that carries the Zika by 95% which according to Oxitec is "well below the modelled threshold for epidemic disease transmission" Then how is Zika even a problem?
  9. All I've got is :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: for your dd.
  10. You meant, "Party On, Coyotes", yes?
  11. Thanks everyone for taking the time to give me ideas. They certainly have come in handy. I run into a problem sometimes that I've maybe seen them all ... twice sometimes.... like West Wing and MASH (I think I've seen every episode 4 or more times in my life) I haven't seen Tootsie in forever, I may break that out. I still start giggling when thinking of Frasier and the scence where Giles gets drunk and performs CPR on the diver in the fishtank. I wish I could watch Longmire like I've never seen it before. I really enjoy that show. What I haven't seen and had forgotten about is Downton Abbey. *headslap* The last two seasons anyway. I had to get away from it for a bit. I was struggling with Edith's story line involving the baby. I've been watching Foyle's War which has been ... fun? I like his style. I've been collecting old movies to binge watch, I may start digging through those. Has anyone ever seen any Audury Murphy movies available online anywhere? I'm looking forward to the new season (of Grimm, Blacklist, Scandal, and the one with the woman with all the tattoos - can't think of the name) starting up again...why is it taking so long? It's the superbowl, isn't it? I'm rambling. Shutting up. And thank you for the well wishes, I'm good if I stay put. If I get up and move around, I plummet into the abyss of sick.
  12. Yes. Because if it does wind up being Zika and Zika is known to be found in semen and urine, long after blood tests fail to detect it (like ebola btw) condom usage should be a high priority. Also, there are larger issues though, of terminating the pregnancy, as I'm hearing that the microcephaly is usually not detected until later in the pregnancy. And you know there's far more controversy about late term abortions than there is about first term. But in a country like Brazil where I'm reading that screens are a luxury, I'm not sure that everyone will have access to birth control easily or at all. In our US system, some changes would be legislated once people started suing or at least blow it up on social media and riot. I have no idea how Brazil might work this.
  13. You, obviously, haven't been down the deep part of the rabbit hole then. The Tdap vaccine was "recently" reformulated and pregnant women were ordered to start receiving it in 2015 to control a potential pertussis outbreak. And, there's even been talk that only some distinct Brazilian ethnic group is receiving the tainted vaccine. I'm sick. Stuck on the couch. I've got time on my hands. However, what I'm trying to do now is track down the original source of the idea that it is this Tdap vac created by Bill Gates. Because all the sites that are talking about it have the same talking points, but I can't find the one that started it all. Although, it could be of foreign origins and then I'll never find it. Oh, and it if does wind up being a mosquito borne illness?? Well, there are GMOs of those too to blame.
  14. What about ticks? They too are transmitters of diseases - some of which we haven't identified yet - and I have yet to see where they are "beneficial". But that doesn't mean that I'm just not understanding their importance. Same with mosquitoes. I can't help but think of the Butterfly Effect theory.
  15. It is strange that a virus that hadn't caused microcephaly - at all as far as we know - is suddenly now causing it to the tune of 4,000 babies from Oct 2015 to Jan 2016 (that's 4 months) when usually in the whole of Brazil there are only 150 cases. That seems rather alarming. Did the Zika virus really mutate so rapidly and in two countries in such a short time (40 weeks prior to Oct. 2015)?? Seems unlikely. Seems like the science community is finding making some giant leaps without really knowing what is causing it. I haven't seen one report that says "Hey! We found the link between the babies and Zika. It's mutated!". How many more babies in the next 4 months will be born with this awful disease birth defect? Which brings up another controversial topic(s): birth control and abortion. I have no idea how Brazil feels about those topics. But at this point it seems important to maybe revisit those topics if it is Zika. Especially since there is evidence that a woman's husband/boyfriend could infect them.
  16. I'm reading that the Olympics may be in jeopardy. We'll have to see about that, I guess. I'm also reading...get your tin foil hats out... that in 2014 pregnant Brazilians were asked to get the Tdap vaccine in order to prevent a pertussis outbreak and that is a more likely a cause of the microcephaly. BUT that does bring up a good point, in that there really isn't evidence that it's Zika. There may be something else entirely at play.... as other have said.
  17. In the linked article it's very interesting that the virus was unable to be found in his bloodstream, but was found in his semen and urine. Plus, apparently, it does not infect mice or rats, so it'll be difficult to study. Oy. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/01/26/health/two-cases-suggest-zika-virus-could-be-spread-through-sex.html
  18. I'm surprised that this hasn't been discussed yet. While the science is still out there seems to be growing evidence that the virus is the cause of the microcephaly. There's been discussions elsewhere about why it's blown up in Brazil: from "it's mutated" to because of an immune response. Disturbingly, there's been at least one documented case where the husband has transmitted the virus to his wife. So, what are your thoughts?
  19. I went to the walk in today thinking that I'd developed a sinus infection after my cold and even though I was getting worse fast, I didn't think I was that bad yet. But I have bilateral ear infections, a sinus infection, pneumonia and what looks like strep throat. And besides feeling absolutely crummy I feel sick to my stomach. So I need recommendations on movies or tv shows you like to watch on netflix, hulu, and amazon. We don't have cable.
  20. I'm sorry. But it is understandable. :grouphug: :grouphug:
  21. I second the recommendation that you see a pulmonologist. You very well could have asthma that has worsened because of age and illness.
