  1. There's a meme for that, goes something like everytime I hold a baby I've got to talk my ovaries down like a hostage negotiator. I get it. My only old lady advice - I'm 40plus - is that make up your mind before biology makes it up for you ...
  2. She sounds unsocialized. BUT that's not a life long problem. Time, patience and love can win her over. Just be very very very careful about letting her outside - as in don't do it. There are some things you can get to help her mood.... http://www.amazon.com/SmartyKat-9345-Organic-Catnip-Canister/dp/B007JCDF9U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1438832826&sr=8-1&keywords=organic+catnip http://www.amazon.com/Feliway-Plug--Diffuser-bottle-Milliliters/dp/B000WHUOEI/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1438832888&sr=8-3&keywords=cat+pheromone I am so surprised that the above works. I bought the spray to help them with our huge 3 day move and new home and then the next new home 6 months later. Kept my cats from spraying and totally wigging out. Also something like this might help... but be sure to get more than one so that the cats can claim their own. Also, be sure to saturate them in catnip to get them in and comfortable. http://www.amazon.com/Abyss-Pets-Convertible-Pet-Bed-House/dp/B00QSB8CVO/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1438833181&sr=8-10-spons&keywords=cat+bed Disclaimer: Not all cats are affected by catnip. Sometimes catnip makes angry drunks. And sometimes, really stressed cats don't respond to catnip right away.

  4. IF I had 8 on my laptop I would because NOTHING could be worse than that. However, I have 7 and Microsoft will have to pry it from my cold dead laptop to get it.
  5. Okay. But it could set legal precedence. Couldn't it Because of this case, couldn't other judges now site this case and place kids in detention as another measure to ensure compliance?
  6. Hey, just a thought, isn't this like victim blaming? Aren't the children victims of the divorce? Of the failed relationship of their parents? On one hand, if you were to say that the mother is mentally unstable and she is poisoning the children, then she has abused them and they are victims. On the other hand, if you were to say, that the father is an abuser, an absentee father, and perhaps NPD, then he too has abused the children and they are victims. And now in my opinion, they are victims of a Judge and of a court systems. So isn't this blaming the victim of abuse? Isn't this punishing a victim?
  7. See, I'm stumped that the judge in this case is holding the children responsible. They are minors. It is up to the mother, who is the custodial parent in this case, to make the children available for visitation as it is described in the divorce agreement. Let's say that (hypothetically) per the divorce agreement the father gets the kids every other weekend and for two weeks during the summer. If the mother does not make the children available for this and repeatedly makes them unavailable then the father can take HER back to court. If she defies the court order SHE can be held in contempt. She is the adult. She was in a contractual agreement with the court and the father. She should be penalized. This has happened before in courts around the country. I, too, do not condone a forced relationship. Not at all.
  8. Oh, I know. I just used the opportunity to post the google search ....
  9. Oh, don't believe me or the Wash. Post... there are transcript somewhere on google, I've read them. https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=michigan%20judge
  10. So this is a spin off of the other thread. A judge in Michigan sent three children ages 9, 10 and 15 to a juvenile detention center for refusing to see their dad. http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-watch/wp/2015/07/09/michigan-judge-bullies-children-in-open-court-for-refusing-to-see-their-dad/ I've been going 'round and 'round on this in my mind. IF a child can be sent to juvenile detention (jail with pretty pictures on the wall) then a parent, who refuses to exercise their visitation, should also be sent to jail. I know some children who's non-custodial parent(s) have not seem them in YEARS. They pay their support. Contact on holidays and birthdays, but have not "visited" the children in years. Based on jailing children for doing the same, shouldn't a parent be jailed as well??
  11. We lived in Va for about 8 years. While it's pretty. Has a mild climate. And northern Va has a lot to offer. One of the biggest downsides for us was taxes. Personal property tax to the tune of 60 to 150 per year per car right at Christmas time - the bill is due December 5th. And it has a state tax - and they require you to pay tax on all purchases you made out of the state of Va. Homeschool laws are pretty good. But you can't participate in the schools at all. And they do not recognized homeschool credits - so if you decide in 11th grade you want to go to high school, they'll put you in at 9th grade. I'm a Florida native, and I still love Florida. Homeschooling is very easy. Lots of things to do. Very hot in the summer. No state income tax. But I hate how they are paving over all the natural areas. I'm in North Dakota now. I know you said it's out because of the laws, but a lot has changed in very recent years. Used to be that if you didn't have a Bachelors degree or a teaching cert. they'd monitor you. Not so anymore. Now, if you have a high school diploma you can homeschool without the monitoring. You have to file a notice of intent every year and test in grades 4, 6, 8 and 10. If you or your spouse has a Bachelor's degree, you can opt out of the testing. The state that scares me is PA, followed closely by MD and CA. But that's an opinion that is not based on personal experience.
  12. This story in unreal. She fawns all over the dad and puts the children in jail????? Fine the MOM. Incarcerate the MOM. Sanction the MOM. But NO, she JAILS the children???? Makes me want to the follow the money. The love interest. The campaign finance log. Her Christmas gift list. Something smells so wrong here. I've never heard of children being incarcerated because of a parent's actions in custody/visitation dispute. If someone knows otherwise, please post it - I'm very interested in some sort of past precedent for this.
  13. Also, bleach may not (probably not) kill coccidia. Try a 10% percent ammonia solution for cleaning. Also, try using a small cardboard box (like a soda can box where the sides are only about and inch to 2 inches tall) with a little litter in it for a litter box that you can dispose of daily. http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=1+2122&aid=726
  14. I've had kittens die for no known cause and suddenly too - it's heart wrenching. I feel for you. My first thought was worms. And if your vet suspects coccidia, it seems like the treatment is fair. If you have to take them in again, see if the medicine is a sulfa type based antibiotic - probably it is. Just keep giving them food and lots and lots of water. The sickly ones may need to be helped to eat and drink more - whatever that looks like. From standing there to make sure the healthier ones don't eat it all to pulling them and isolating them during feeding times. Only don't isolate them for anything else, cats are so social and will miss their siblings if gone too long. Also, while potato flaxes and pedialyte are great short term, make sure it does not replace any of their regular food. Seems like you are doing everything that you can and that you have lots of help (housekeeper, vet). Little ones just sometimes don't make it. I hate it and still feel bad (and guilty) for each and every one that I've lost (4) out of the dozens that I've saved. :grouphug:
  15. I'm considering this for next year.... anyone have any other thoughts? Homeschoolbuyersco-op is going to be offering it for $75 starting June 22.
  16. Depends on my email account. My yahoo one is well over 20,000 - I yearly delete thousands in spam. I just haven't cleaned it out this year.... yet. After, I'll probably only have about 1,000 or so. I keep all my correspondence with vendors and sale items and family, etc. Some emails date back to 2004. My gmail account that I use for family, friends and some (very few) other things only has about 50 in it. Drives my dh NUTS! But then he's glad when I can grab an email from 2009 or 08 or 06 ... with no problem.
  17. Whatever it is I hope you feel better soon!!
  18. I liked it. I couldn't help myself. It's late and ....
  19. From the Screven County website pdf... So, only 5 days of absences will be covered by a parent note, all other days will be unexcused or require a doctor's note. She even says that their doctor is going to REissue his doctors note... It about the money, money money.... ETA: Oooops, forgot to post the link... http://www.screven.k12.ga.us/Portals/Screven/District/docs/Compulsory%20Attendance.pdf
  20. It's about money. In a lot of schools districts their money is tied to average daily student attendance.

  23. Anyway you could just buy a new one? There is a way to steam clean them, so I've been told. Rent a couch places do that. Maybe call them and see who in your area offers that?
  24. I'm sure that I don't disagree with you. The father - IF the complaint is true - should never have asked his kid to go get a gun. The very idea is abhorrent. I just got stuck on someone inserting the idea that the mother was going to go all Ruby Ridge on the authorities. I don't think that's even possible given the set of circumstances that we have been told about. For those that don't know or don't remember: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruby_Ridge
