  1. Good question. I don't know much about copyright violations but I certainly wasn't doing anything to make a profit. He said it would hinder sales of "notebooking pages, etc." But, like I said, if the notebooking pages would have worked for what I was looking for I would have just purchased them instead of spending hours creating my own. My son needed more than what their notebooking pages offered.
  2. He told me I was welcome to use them with my family but couldn't share them. He told me I needed to change the titles to the pages since they corresponded with the MOH lesson title and change any references to the text. Some of the pages I did were fill in the blanks based on the reading so all of those would need to be replaced. There were also some pages that involved matching facts to the correct item (some were people, some were places, etc.) and I am sure those would need changed to even though I am sure the lessons list facts that can be found in other books besides MOH. So it would involve too much work on my part to redo them. The whole point of the pages what for them to line up with the MOH lessons- changing that would kind of make it pointless. He told me that if I changed some things I would have a good product to sell, but that is not my intention at all! I worked hard putting these together for my son and just thought that someone else could benefit.
  3. We borrow many from the library. Also, if your library has a used book sale that may be a good opportunity. Our church has a library too.
  4. Thank you all for sharing in my frustration. :grouphug: It is frustrating, but like I said, my personality is not the type to push limits. I wish I could take the time back it made it create them- I even went back and did worksheets for the lessons we had already completed so I could post a whole year of work. Next thing I know Scholastic will be contacting me telling me I can't have science based on their DVDs! It is going to be hard finding a replacement for MOH since it makes a great spine that adds in plenty of Biblical history. Right now I am looking at VP since I think it will be easy enough to add to it, but if anyone else has any suggestions that would be great:)
  5. My husband and I wondered the same thing. I may have to look into it further, but truthfully, it didn't leave me with great feeling about Bright Ideas Press. I literally spend hours putting all of those together and just thought I would share them. Their website doesn't have anything like what I created- they have plain notebooking pages, but I knew those wouldn't keep my son's attention as well. But, I am no expert on copyright issues and I am not one to test the limits. It is too bad because I thought what I made filled a gap in something they didn't offer.
  6. Thank you, again:) This is very helpful and it looks like a program that will work well for us!
  7. Thank you for the link- it is so helpful to actually see a sample! In order to use the enhanced CD all I would need are the VP history cards, right? Or do I need all of the supplemental books too? As far as the year I am looking for, maybe you could help me with that:) We are using MOH right now and volume 1 ends with the Resurrection, which would put me in between years 2 and 3 I believe. Do you know about how many cards there would be at the end of year 2 that would be after this time period? Thanks!
  8. Thank you! I was getting the impression that the CD was mostly worksheets and the memory song. My plan is to tie in the history cards with a history spine (probably Usborne since that is what we already have) and add in a bunch of living books. It sounds like I should just stick with the cards since they will just be one part of our history studies.
  9. Does anyone use this? I am having a hard time understanding what exactly the CD includes and I can't find samples anywhere. My plan is to put together a history curriculum using the VP history cards along with some other resources and I am wondering if the CD would be beneficial. If you have it, would you consider it helpful? Any info on the CDs would be great-thanks!
  10. Several of the eBooks that are used are on sale for $1 now. Here they are: http://teacherexpress.scholastic.com/write-read-books-science http://teacherexpress.scholastic.com/sandwich-bag-science-mkt10153 http://teacherexpress.scholastic.com/soda-bottle-science-mkt10152 http://teacherexpress.scholastic.com/coffee-can-science-mkt2756 http://teacherexpress.scholastic.com/teaching-science-yes-you-can Here is a link to the curriculum http://wateronthefloor.wordpress.com/homemade-studies/. Enjoy!
  11. *UPDATE ON POST #48 I just finished creating some "worksheets" (I use that term loosely because some have more of a narratation style to them) to go along with the lessons in Mystery of History volume 1. My oldest son seems to concentrate when he has something to follow or complete in each lesson so this was my way of helping him stay focused. I do have to say that my daughter does not use these because they are a little too much for her- she prefers to write a couple of sentences and draw a picture to go with it:) So I would think they could be used for 3rd grade and up (not sure how far up since I don't have any that old yet). Anyway, I thought maybe these could help someone else, so here they are! http://waterontheflo...memade-studies/ ETA: BRIGHT IDEAS PRESS CONTACTED ME AND ASKED ME TO TAKE THE PAGES DOWN SINCE THEY WERE CONCERNED ABOUT IT COMPETING WITH PRODUCTS THEY SELL TO USE WITH MOH:( THEY SAID I CAN MODIFY THEM AS JUST GENERAL ANCIENT HISTORY CURRICULUM PAGES, WHICH I MAY DO IF I HAVE SOME EXTRA TIME. BUT FOR NOW I HAD TO TAKE THEM OFF THE BLOG. SORRY!
  12. Anyone else have a WW they didn't get a chance to share? Here is ours: This is the Way We Play the Piano.
  13. It is Building Foundations of Scientific Understanding http://www.amazon.com/Building-Foundations-Scientific-Understanding-Curriculum/dp/1432706101. I know what you mean about AiG- I really think it would be best for maybe 5th grade or above:)
  14. Well, it is not already done, but I use excerpts from any of the Narnia books and type them in on Worksheet Works http://www.worksheetworks.com/english/writing/handwriting.html. You just type in the passage and it generates the worksheet. You could probably do a whole year of work in about an hour at the most. If you want something already done you could check out CurrClick- they may have something.
  15. Hurray! I know what I will be spending the evening doing:)
  16. I was able to find my 1st edition used on Amazon.
  17. I think the first edition would be your best option for what you want. It gives you the what and why and suggests how to get a classical education done, but this edition makes it much easier to do it yourself without being tied to the PHP products. I love the 1st edition and refer to it often!
  18. I know this may not be the popular option, but we are doing ATFF without TWSS and it is going just fine. If I have questions I either watch the webinar on the particular unit we are on or I look in the files on the Yahoo group. If The Ancient book is written by Lori V. then you should be fine- her books are very teacher friendly.
  19. This year science is actually get done with the Magic School Bus science I put together. The kids are having fun and learning a lot. Now the problem will start when we finish and I have to find something else to do :glare: . I think I am going to put my own thing together again with some of the WTM recs but will include the things we have with MSB (reading in age appropriate encyclopedias, some fiction and nonfiction books that will include Yesterday's Classics books, some notebooking, some experiments that will actually get done, and maybe some more games and poetry thrown in for fun). I have this problem with being tied to a curriculum- it stifles me (oh, and I am cheap!:)!
  20. Definitely look into the Yesterday's Classics eBooks- they are fantastic! Here are some early readers http://marriottmd.com/sam/. We use Living Memory for our memory work http://www.lulu.com/...t-17520206.html (if you sign up for email alerts they occasionally send coupons). Another book like that is Grammar Stage Memorization http://www.lulu.com/...uct-631808.html , but I prefer Living Memory. For math you can use Math Mammoth, which can be a pdf. We use the Blue series, but many others use the Light Blue series (which is graded) http://www.mathmammoth.com/ Currclick has a lot of great things. They sell Miquon there as a pdf. I have purchased many things from them without spending a lot of money (some are even free!). Depending on which curricula you use there may be Yahoo groups for them. Check those out because there are often pdfs to do with the books in the files section. Keep an eye out for Scholastic Dollar Days- they have some great things, especially for younger kids (most of our Magic School Bus science is based on their books). Simply Charlotte Mason has some great teaching/inspiration tools http://simplycharlot...free-resources/. As far as Bibles, we use the Bible app so we can have all of the different translations in one place (and some even with audio)http://www.a.youversion.com/free-bible-apps. I am sure there is more and I'll add later when I think of them:)
  21. If you are willing to make it on your own this website makes it very easy to create your own copywork. http://www.worksheetworks.com/english/writing/handwriting.html
  22. Wow! I am not sure that type of writing would even be erasable. When we purchased Saxon 5/4 we had a few marks on a few pages to erase (not nearly that amount) and it is really difficult with those Saxon books to erase well enough so that it doesn't show. I hope you get this issue resolved! -PS- the picture in your siggy of your dd is so adorable:)
  23. You guys are awesome!!! WOW!!! I went from not knowing where to start to having to narrow down some really great choices! I really appreciate you all sharing what has worked for your families. There are some really neat resources out there:)
  24. Thank you! Those are two options I have not looked at yet. It is definitely tricky when I always feel like I am needing to add things in to what we are already doing. I have spent a lot of time researching doing CC for next year with my kids and I figure if the kids can learn something about an artist or composer in 6 minutes a week (that is how much time is spent on each new memory piece) then certainly I can get that done at some point in time! ETA: OK, I just checked out the Homeschool in the Woods packets and they look perfect! Thanks so much!
  25. This is one part of homeschooling I always struggle with (meaning we seem to run out of time/energy before it gets done!). So I am looking for ideas on how to make sure we do get it done. What resources or books do you use? I am hoping to find free or at least cheaper resources. How much time do you spend on studying art and music? Do you study composers and artists? I would really like to include this part with our studies, maybe with some nice flash cards or something (I found these for artists and would love to find something similar for composers). If you could just describe what this type of studying looks like in your school maybe I could get a better idea of what I should be doing. As always, thanks so much!
