DS really needs some brushing up on grammar. We have Shurley English, but I feel it is too much parent work for a 5th grader. What else is out there that will help booster his grammar skills and not require me to sit with him for an hour to do one lesson. I dont mind teaching him, but an hour lesson in just one subject while I need to do K with my dd and watch my toddler just is not reasonable here.

I think I am going to lay off the HOP. She really enjoys the Spelling workout, so we will keep doing that for now.

because she enjoys it. She has a note book and goes around the house writing down every word she can possibly find.

We have Hooked on phonics and spelling workout level A. She does pretty good with spelling workout so long as i read the directions. HOP i think she just hates

Yes let him read them! My ds is 10 and reads at a 12 grade level. He is allowed to check out any book so long as the content is appropriate.

Thanks so much everyone! She does know how to write and if you tell her what to write she will write it but she doesn't know WHAT she wrote until someone reads it to her. DH isn't fond of the idea of buying even more curriculum. He feels I need to make work what we have. I will figure it out eventually though,lol

I am pretty sure the saxon is K...its 1A and 1B. She understands the concepts, I'm just not sure how to teach it.

I am having the hardest time teaching my dd. She will be 6 in Dec. She knows all the letters and what they say, she can put simple words together (reading and writing them) but when we sit down to do any phonics she freezes and cannot remember anything. I dont understand how to teach the Saxon math that we have and I cannot have her do the K-1 science that we have because it expects her to be able to write properly. I feel like I am failing her. ODS is so advanced I never thought teaching dd would be this difficult.

DS has to go over every wrong problem but only has to redo the lesson if he gets less then 90%

we do a year round schedule however will be taking July off so we can move across the country. We will start back up at the end of July once we get into our new house. We just take breaks as needed during the year!

Ok the army has taken OK from us and they are sending us to GA. I admit I am a little intimidated by their laws. 4.5 hours of instruction a day plus monthly attendance records have to be submitted??? Please tell me I am over thinking this.

I have never had an issue watching it on PBS. I just need it to come back on though...lol

My ds is in 4th and just finishing up tt4 and will start tt5 next week. It takes us about 6 months to finish a level

Our first grade curriculum depends on her being able to read though? She should be reading by fall. I did have her go play. She would rather do workbook pages then learn to read.

when your five year old refuses to even try? We were trying to work on review words, words she has been reading for months and she just looks at them like they mean nothing????

we have always managed around 3-4 hours per day!

4 days but we school year round and never take more then a full week off when we need it.

we do school 4 days a week, not 5 and we take random weeks off as well

I am in college and everything is APA so when the time comes that will be what I teach.

Last year we did the CAT (we use TT also) and ds scored no less then 95% in every subject! I do not question TT at all!

i have Classic Life Science for Bio, bible is just an age appropriate devotional book and I am unsure about the FL. Would love to do Latin or Greek but I am afraid I would screw it up.
