  1. I am looking for suggestions and reviews for Spanish I and II to be done at home. I have no experience in Spanish, so we need something that can be done independently. DS has no interest in pursuing this in a career setting, so these boxes just need to get checked. I am thinking about using AO LIFEPACS or American School. Has anyone used American School for Spanish? I have also looked at OSU in the past. I would be interested to hear any feedback on these options. Thank you in advance!
  2. Thank you to all who responded! I will look into your suggestions. I really appreciate your help. If anyone else reads this and has anything to add, I would appreciate hearing from you also!
  3. We are facing Chemistry next year (ugh!) I am trying to find a basic regular chemistry course (college prep) and would like to have a video lecture component with it. I have been reading about the GPB Chemistry and am very interested in it. How do you implement this course? I've read about having to purchase the teacher materials CD. Is this all that is needed to make this a complete course or do you need to add a textbook? If so, which one(s) would work with it? Now about labs...what is the best way to go? I need some that are doable at home without having to purchase a lot of special equipment. I have read about kits, but I don't know which ones are the best for our needs. ALTERNATE PLAN: I am also considering Apologia. I don't really care for the conversational tone or the lack of "wow" factor to the books. I have never used them, however. I've thought about using DIVE or RWT with it. I don't have any experience with chemistry. Please help!! I would really appreciate hearing from the hive!
  4. http://www.qualitysciencelabs.com/biology-labs/qsl-biology-lab-kit/ This looks pretty good to me. Can anyone recommend a good microscope that won't break the budget? :001_smile: Thanks!
  5. We are going to give Holt Biology a try next year. I would like to find a lab kit that can be used in conjunction with this curriculum to make a full course with lab component (I don't want to try to implement the labs in the book). I need something that is student led and easy to use. I would prefer a kit that comes with a good lab manual. Does anything like this exist? Also, is it necessary to purchase a microscope for biology or is there another way around this? I am open to any suggestions that the hive can provide! Thanks!
  6. I plan on using Holt Biology next year. I believe that you are talking about the virtual investigations CD?? If so, I found this used online for <$7 which includes shipping. I'm glad to share if you want to PM me. HTH
  7. I am bumping my poll here in hopes that I can get more replies. I have read a lot of the threads here about OSU Spanish and I would really like to hear from those who have used it. Would you recommend it? What are the positives/negatives? Any feedback is appreciated. I hope to hear from the hive! I am grateful for the wisdom offered here!
  8. Sebastian - Thank you for your response. These things are very helpful to know! Anyone else? I would love to hear from anyone that has opinions and information to offer! I'm :bigear:!!
  9. Would you recommend it? DC needs two years of Spanish to graduate. Is this course doable for self study? I have no Spanish background, so I can't really help in this area. I am looking for something that starts at the basics and slowly works up. This course looks good as far as I can tell from the syllabus. I have ordered the text and am waiting for it to come. I would appreciate any opinions that you can offer. This course is expensive and I want to make sure that it meets our needs before I sign up. TIA
  10. Thank you for all the responses! I thought that I had saved a copy of the list somewhere, but can't find it. I appreciate the link very much! I wonder why College Board took the list down?
  11. I have seen this list before, but I can't seem to find it on the website today. I would really appreciate it if someone can point me in the right direction! TIA
  12. I would like to hear from anyone with great things they used this year and what you are planning for next year!
  13. I haven't made any definite decisions yet for next year. I am still researching. Perhaps some of you wonderful WTM posters can spur me on! I would love to hear your ideas! I'm :bigear:! So far I'm thinking: Geometry: TT or Derek Owens Literature: ??? English: BJU Grammar, Write @ Home, vocabulary History: BJU World History Science: Holt or BJU w/ DIVE Spanish: OSU
  14. In a similar situation with literature here. Could you share how you did it? I'd be interested to know what you did for the reading AND writing part. :bigear:
  15. I just found this post. Do you know what the copyright years are on these editions? I am interested in finding out more about this series. Could you (and others) give me some feedback on your experience? I need something that will walk us through literature with lots of clear instruction. TIA :bigear:
  16. We have been doing BJU science for years with DVDs. Their courses are VERY challenging. I like their materials, but starting at 8th grade on, I feel like their material is above grade level. We are looking for something else for next year. There has to be more of a "happy medium" out there.
  17. We are enrolled in an online writing class now and for next year, but it doesn't do any sort of literature writing/analysis. That's mainly what I am looking for. I go through the books with my dc and will continue to do so. I am looking for something that will take us through a little more literature analysis. Thanks so much for everyone's responses. If anyone else as anything to add, I'd love to hear from you!:bigear:
  18. I have been looking around for something to use for literature for my dc who will be in 8th and 10th grades. We did Progeny Press guides this year and liked them. Oldest dc does not like to read and doesn't like literature study. I feel that we did a good job with the PP guides, but I feel that we need to add in focused writing about literature. I may stay with PP, but I would definately entertain something that is self-guided for the student or an online class - something not too heavy, but prepares for college. Literature is not my strongest area and I don't have a lot of time to dedicate to this because of work demands. I would appreciate hearing from anyone that can provide suggestions and share their experiences. TIA - looking forward to hearing your responses!:bigear:
