  1. I went to the cle yahoo group and was reading up on it to learn more. I noticed that there is a difference between sunrise and non sunrise- Which version do I want? And there was a mention to the aop website to purchase the placement unit test. Does this mean it is the same thing as a lifepac unit? Please help me clarify! Thank you thank you!!:)
  2. My daughter used these when she was 3 turning 4. Loved them, loved them, loved them! And how could you go wrong for that price!!
  3. I'll try to make this short. Last year was our first year homeschooling- we used Abeka Grade 5 math. My daughter always got straight A's in public school, but as soon as she did Abeka she now hates math! It wasn't really too hard for her (she still made good grades), we just didn't like the program, how it was laid out, etc. Everyone says Saxon, so I borrowed a friend's Saxon 7/6. I like how it explains everything to you, but she thought it looked very easy. So I thought maybe try level 8/7? Or do I even bother? I want to find the "right" math program for us and not have to switch her again thru middle school years. Singapore looked like too much to handle. We like the idea behind Teaching Textbooks- their rep told me to put her in grade 7 coming from Abeka 5. Has anyone used TT or had great success in another math program? It would be greatly appreciated!!!
  4. My son loves "Little Pilgrim's Progress". He begs me to read to him a chapter a night!
  5. A friend of mine has always used R&S for bible, and she absolutely loves it! She told me it is Very in-depth, and that she is even learning new things right along with her daughter! She used grade 5 this year, and I want to say it took a good 45 minutes a lesson. She wouldn't use anything else. Hope this helps! Karen
  6. My daughter read History of US volume 10 to add to her 1950-present day BJU Heritage Studies and she loved this book! There are 10 volumes in all- covering all American History. I bought hers at Books A Million, then you can flip thru it and see if you like it. It is very reader friendly and teaches alot of neat facts that textbooks don't usually cover. If you decided you liked it Rainbow Resource sells all the volumes and the teacher guide. Maybe you would use the Teacher guide if this was your sole history, but if you use them to add to what you already have then you wouldn't need it. Hope this is helpful! KP By the way, I am doing SL Core 2 with my son next year. If you decide to sell your core 3 would you let me know? Thanks!
  7. My daughter just finished up Abeka Grade 5 Math. She dislikes math, but does well in it. She hated Abeka math! So I decided to switch to Teaching Textbooks next year for 6th. She took their placement test and got all the answers right. I called them directly, and they reccommended she go directly into Math grade 7 from using Abeka 5. I guess my problem is that I don't want to push her into getting in over her head- but at the same time I don't want to spend a whole year in review. Can anyone give me any guidance on this? I would really appreciate it!
  8. This was my first year homeschooling, so I spend ALOT of time researching cirriculums. I used Apologia Botany for my 5th grader this year, and am thinking of doing Astronomy and Zoology 2 next year with her for 6th. Just wondering how the kids test after doing Apologia. What are your feelings about science? I am going to use Considering God's Creation with my 2nd grade son in the Fall. He is very hands-on, likes to do stuff. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks!
  9. I sat a table outside under the trees for myself and my 3 kids. We all wore funny/ pretty hats and gloves I picked up at garage sales. We ate cookies that the kids help me make and poured tea from a pitcher. We have always had our "tea parties" outside, enjoying nature and all God's creation.
  10. I have two daughters ages 4 and 11, and a son age 7 and I must say we all enjoyed the movie! (even my husband thought it was cute!) The cleaning cockroaches kinda grossed me out, but all in all it was a cute movie.
  11. I wanted to do a picture study, but could not spend alot of money. I actually went to Barnes and Noble and purchased a wondeful art book- "coffee table size" book- that had beautiful full page pictures of art work and info. about the artist, all for $9.99. My kids love it!
