  1. Oh, you are giving me so many ideas for my next Cav. I was already planning to get a Tri and name her Lucy. But now I want a Black and Tan so I can use that Linus name, and I love Cute Red Headed Girl for a Ruby!!

LOL! It's an ADDICTION! But see how much fun it is to play the puppy name game? Like I said, WAAAY more fun than baby-naming! :-)

I've always wanted to use the name "Linus." LOVE the whole imagery. And when I typed out "Cute Redheaded Girl" I was specifically thinking of a Ruby Cav. SO cute!

  2. There aren't enough words for how much I love this.

And now I can't stop trying for more:

    Fireflyz I Got a Rock

    Fireflyz Roundheaded Kid

    Fireflyz Tens and Twenties

    Fireflyz Pantophobia

    Fireflyz Toast and Popcorn

SEE?! Isn't it fun? WAAAAY more fun than naming babies, if you ask me! Fewer "is this weird?" paramaters!!

LOVE "Roundheaded Kid" because it's actually a breed characteristic (and a somewhat controversial one, actually!) of Cavs. VERY appropriate for the breed.

Fireflyz Grab the Antiseptic (LOL! naw, just kidding!)

Fireflyz Security Blanket (but then his call name would have to be "Linus.")

    Fireflyz In Love With Lucy

    Fireflyz Cute Redheaded Girl

    Fireflyz Woodstock's Companion

Fireflyz Finally Kicked the Football (there's your alliteration, OP!)

    Fireflyz The Great Pumpkin

I think I still like, "Fireflyz He's A Good Man"

  3. Thanks, that is helpful. And I love the Beetles names!

You're very welcome. I forgot to add that for what it's worth, those of us in the purebred dog world tend to really remark on and appreciate a great name. The Name Game is a favorite pastime of dog folks, and it's wonderful that you're putting thought into it. Charlie's a lucky boy!

(And now where are the pictures?! Few things are cuter than a Cav!) :-)

  4. I never realized that the AKC was so picky about names. Why does it have to start with Fireflyz?

Thet AKC could care less, as long as the name you want isn't taken and you remember to put the check in the envelope! ;-)

The breeder often files the paperwork, but if it's left to the buyer to do it, they often stipulate that you use the kennel prefix.

  5. I like Fireflyz He's a Good Man. I will have to talk with DH. He had the idea of Fireflyz Good Grief Charley Brown or Good Grief Charles. What do you think of those names?

For those who know, is it more common for dogs to have fun names or fancy names like Sir Charles Poppycock the Great? (I have no intention of using that name, BTW, just for example)

Depends......but I read through show catalogs every single weekend and I can tell you I see more fun, catchy names than Sir Charles Poppycock The Great type names. In my own experience, we pick names before we bring the puppy home, because our breeder files the paperwork. We often do geographical names (Schoodic, Yuma, etc.) or something that has some meaning to us or the breeder. Kayak was a "K" litter, so his name had to begin with a K. Our breeder's husband builds inlaid wood sea kayaks that are displayed in maritime museums all over the world, and he builds them lovingly by hand, so we used "Kayak Calm Waters" for his registered name to pay homage to Jurgen, the breeder's husband.

Some breeders have "theme" litters-- songs, geography, etc. My dd is a huge Beatles fan and has tons of "Beatles" puppy names picked out for our kennel prefix, which is "Curlingstone." Curlingstone's Strawberry Fields, Curlingstone's Eleanor Rigby, Curlingstones Lucy in the Sky, Curlingstone's Words of Wisdom (Let it Be) etc.

I like Fireflyz He's a Good Man better than "Fireflyz Good Grief Charlie Brown" because the former draws the connection without making it seem "trademarked." I don't know... I'm picky about names, and I love to play the Name Game with puppies and litters.

  6. Yes, breeders are very pleased when titles are earned by dogs with their kennel name prefix. It shows that their lines have working ability-- brains and good looks, in other words. The registered name is never used around the house; dogs have "call names." Sometimes they have something to do with the registered name, and sometimes they don't. Below I have our current dogs' names, and their call names come after. For the first two, their call names are just shortened versions of their registered names. For Schoodie, Acadia National Park is one of our favorite places, and "Schoodic Point" is a location we love in the park.

VLX U-GCH, GCH Seelowen Danika, CD, DD, RN, TT, CGC, TDI (Dani)

CH Seelowen Kayak Calm Waters, CGC (Ky)

GCH Wanderweg's Heart of Acadia, CD, RN (Schoodic)

    Curlingstone's General Tso, CGC (Yoshi)

And a host of others at The Bridge, including my heart dog: VLA CH Yuma Lion de la Toison d'Or, CD, DD, TT, CGC, TDI (Yuma)

  7. And mixed breeds can compete in performance events like obedience and agility! Working with your dog(s) is incredibly rewarding! It's not just about "pretension" and "show dogs."

The name must begin with "Fireflyz" because that's the breeder's kennel name. Many (most) breeders require that their kennel prefix be included in the registered name.

    Fireflys He's a Good Man ?

  8. I Didn't know corgis might have issues with cats. What about half crazy giant (like 20lbs of lean muscle) male cats. My mom really wants a corgi but not if it will e likely to have constant problems with the cat, who is already a bit of a constant problem.

If the bunnies are dog savvy, or at least not super skittish and likely to bolt that will help a lot. I would introduce slowly with everyone on leash and maybe even a soft muzzle on the dog. You could also spend time with them in sight but not together, using kennels and/or baby gates then only move closer when all animals are ignoring each other.

We spent months working that plan with my dog aggressive fearful male and Edy. They are great friends now after a year of work and very slowly increasing contact.

We had our Corgi in a dog-friendly yarn store (I know, it's a contradiction in terms, but it's the biggest yarn store in the USA and it's awesomely dog-friendly!) Anyway, a woman bent down to pet my exceedingly polite Corgi and said, "Oh! I just LOVE Corgis! I keep trying to convince my husband that we should get one. But do you think a Corgi would chase my house rabbit?" I replied, "Only once." She didn't get it at first. When it dawned on her she hustled away.

  9. Is that from Laurel Ridge? We just purchased a half pig from them :)

Check out "Pure Beef" from your local library. It's recipes for every cut of grass fed beef.

YES! Laurel Ridge! LOVE THEM! We're original CSA members there, and I do love it, just feel guilty that I don't do those gorgeous animals justice, you know?

Enjoy the pig-- we often get ham steaks and bacon in place of some of our beef allotment.

I"ll definitely check out "Pure Beef." Sounds like EXACTLY what I need! Thanks for the recommendation.

  10. We've belonged to a grass-fed beef CSA for nearly 2 years now. We get 10 lbs per month, which is the lowest amount allowable. We NEVER use it all up. We just don't. I think that's because other than hamburger, I really don't know how to cook grass-fed beef. Everything seems drier and more gamey than grocery-store beef. I know that's the nature of the beast, and to a certain degree we need to live with it, but I think I just need to know how to cook it differently than the beef we all had growing up. I mean, pot roast-- tough to screw up, right? But mine with the grass-fed beef seems to never get moist enough. Is it me?

PLEASE tell me some ways to learn to love cooking grass-fed beef! Slow cuts and steaks especially. I have such guilt over the waste!

    Anyone?

  11. Awww, I'd take Nora in a heartbeat---- wish we lived closer! And I'd be happy to donate too, if the OP would accept it. Please, OP---- consider our offer! Tis the season of giving, and personally speaking, it would make me very happy to help in a very small way to keep Nora with your family. Please?

So sorry you're going through this.

  12. I'm 41. Don't have any back or foot probs. Don't spend a lot of time on my feet. Just thought they looked cute. Can they be worn just as cute shoes or (sorry to those that have them) are they more old lady, back prob, or I'm a nure on my feet all day shoes?

Personally, I never had back problems until this fall. I would have worn them anyway if I'd discovered them sooner. I always saw them on people and thought they were cute but never really knew what brand, etc. I happened upon them because I saw a pair in a store that had a knitted pattern, which I HAD to HAVE. I bought them, loved them, and was telling my friend how it sounds crazy but my back feels better and she told me that no, they're good for backs.

So I bought mine for vanity but stumbled upon the ortho benefits.

astrid (42, recent back injury but loving my clogs!)

  13. I don't have any recommendation beyond what you see on Zappo--the Danskos are amazing. My sister was having back problems, went to the store and tried on 15 different pairs of Danskos, wore them to work the next day, and hasn't had a back problem since. They were $130. You can get them on sale (somewhere on line--I forget) but she said that she tried on at least 3 pairs of the exact same size of the same shoe and they each fit a little differently, so is not willing to buy online.

Guess what she is getting for Christmas?

The good news is: they last forEVer. I've had a pair I wear regularly for at least 7 years and they still look and feel good.

YES. THIS. I know it sounds unbelievable, and I didn't believe it myself until I tried them, but it is true. My back was awful..... I haven't had any pain since buying my Danskos three weeks ago. I cannot recommend them highly enough. I"ve got to find a few more pairs in different colors so I never have to wear anything else!

  14. It is so beautiful and I love it so much but my eyes swell, my nose runs, I sneeze 570000 times and I have to put it away. I could probably use it if I wore a mask. There are just some natural fibers that kill me. :( I have the prettiest ball of bright green mohair, I see it every now and then while digging in the yarn. :( Mean yarn. :(

Awwww....that's NOT FAIR!!! No knitter should be allergic to ANY fiber! BOOOO!!!! :cursing:
