  1. :iagree:I just did this! On the back bottom hem of my DD's swim skirt, I tore a tiny hole on the underside of the fabric. Then I used the kitchen sink sprayer and sprayed so the water (and sand in the skirt) would run down and out the hole. This was such a teeny tear that I didn't even sew it up -- it's not even visible. HTH! :001_smile:
  2. Does anyone know of a great chemistry lapbook for children ages 5 and 8? I'm leaning towards this one from Hands of a Child, but if there was an excellent free one out there, that'd be even better! ;) I also looked at the Study Folders from the Real Science 4 Kids folks, but I can't really tell from the samples what will be included. Anyone use this? TIA! :D Melissa
  3. OOH! Thanks! These are awesome ideas! I just scored two lab coats on Craigslist for $5/ea, and I'm pretty excited! :D
  4. The other day, someone here linked a booklist that corresponded with CC cycle 3 -- I can't find it now! Anyone know what I'm talking about? :tongue_smilie:
  5. I'd like to do a week-long Chemistry Camp for my kiddos this summer (lab coats, lots of great experiments, fizzy/fun snacks, etc). I want it to be really fun , and I want a lot of learning to take place. Anyone have any good ideas? HELP! :D
  6. Well, I did make a cake but it wasn't what I'd describe as "awesome" (at least not awesome LOOKING). I made a chocolate chocolate-chip cake with peanut butter buttercream and had the kiddos decorate the top with a chocolate chip smiley face. Yummy! :D
  7. Aw, man! I'm SO bummed that I missed it. :crying: After two weeks straight of VBS and a storm that kept us all up all night, no one in my house was up for anything this morning. I have met up with Chelle in MO several times though, so hopefully she'll vouch for me also. :D I'm so glad Jean was able to make some progress while here! Woohoo!
  8. Grace's Mom, you are my HERO! I hadn't heard of either of these, and they both look awesome. THANK YOU!!!!! Any other ideas?
  9. I'm pulling my hair out trying to decide what to do for this! Please help! I'd like to do a literature based, somewhat fun/interesting, one-year overview of American History. Instructions for projects/extra activities aren't a high priority, basically I just need some hand-holding as to what books to read when. Any thoughts? I'm looking at Sonlight Intro to American History One-Year Condensed, but I'm pretty sure most of the book choices would be boring for my rising 1st grader. I've never used Sonlight, so I'm not sure exactly if it's what I'm looking for anyway. Any ideas? TIA!
  10. Not an MP3, but you might want to check out the Peace Hill Press youtube channel -- LOTS of great stuff there that I listen to while folding laundry. :001_smile: HTH!
  11. What's for lunch: "Bow noodles" and red sauce. Apples. (And for me, buttered toast. I crave it.) Looking forward to: Being "off" school this week and taking it easy-ish. Wanting prayers for: upcoming vacation, inner peace. Scrapbookbuzz: when I'm needing what you're praying about, I make that day "skittle day" or something similar. If you do it cheerfully and without argument, you get a skittle! (Be sure to display the beautiful skittle container in a prominent area so everyone remembers!) Usually after doing that for a day, it breaks the whining habit....at least for a little bit. ;)
  12. Fiction/non-fiction/classics....anything! What are your favorites? :bigear:
  13. Great ideas! I know several families at our church have been asking about homeschooling and I thought it would be nice for some of the families that already homeschool to offer an hour-or-so general info session for them. We certainly wouldn't have to get into all the nitty-gritty, but I think it would be great to encourage them and say "you can do this!" :D Thanks so much!
  14. what kind of info would you want/find helpful? I'm thinking state requirements, how to get started, etc. :bigear:
  15. Ugh. So glad that everyone is ok. We were at Good Friday service (no where near the airport) while the weather was going crazy. During the sermon, we could could see tons of lightning and hear the wind whipping past. The sirens were blaring. So scary! The weather here has been insane lately!
  16. Thanks so much! I'm off to look up the mini-convention stuff! :001_smile:
  17. Has anyone ever hosted an info night for their church or community? What did you do to prepare? How did it go? I've heard that several families in our church are pondering homeschooling, and I'd love to be able to encourage them and help them find the info they need. :001_smile:

  19. In light of the recent *kerfluffle*, someone posted a great quote about not knowing one's true character until being wrongly accused...I can't seem to find the quote now! Anyone remember?
  20. Chelle, My guesses for the digital camera are: purse, car, baseball bag, or in between couch cushions. Hope ya find it! :001_smile:
  21. Sounds perfect! :001_smile: In case they end up being booked, another option would be Hodak's. Super yummy and VERY reasonable. They have a party room, or you can carry out. (I thought of this in the middle of the night last night, so I had to pass the info along to you!) Congrats on the wedding! Melissa
  22. We had ours at Charlie Gitto's downtown. Same locale as our first date. :D ETA: We only had the parents and wedding party. Easy-peasy.
  23. Yes! :D I love watching/listening to these as I fold laundry.
