  1. a can of worms here, but anyway at Math is in 3a. Her father teaches it so really I shouldn't have brought that up. She just doesn't grasp things like what a noun is or a verb or reading to get a concept. She hates reading and always has. Critical thinking is like mind numbing and shuts her down. I just wonder if I am the problem. You can forget this post if you want. I don't know how to explain what I am feeling. I have tried telling the Dr. that tested her and he didn't understand either.
  2. Singapore for math Rod and Staff Spelling Power (she is amazing me with this, she is doing great) A History of US Prentice hall for Science English from the Roots Up
  3. I don't know how. We are just doing the basics. She is suppose to be 7th grade but working on 5th grade level in everything but math.
  4. What would you do if your child was behind 2 grade levels and more than 2 yrs. behind in math? I don't know how to begin to help her. My daughter has been tested and no learning disablities were found. I have thought about using Calvert as a way of testing to see what grade level she is and then using that to get her to grade level. Any experience you can share would be great. Thanks
  5. I had looked at JAG awhile back, but was turned off by the means of parsing. I thought that parsing might confuse them further. Was I wrong in thinking this?
  6. I am coming to my wits end trying to teach diagramming. I don't know where I have gone wrong. My children still don't know what a verb is and they just keep guessing until they get it right. We started RS this semester (Jan). We are on lesson 8 and it is teaching the simple t with predicate and subject. One of the answers for the verb was - was watching and my daughter 12 yrs. old puts was in the subject place and watching on the verb place. I wanted to scream. We have done diagramming before with Growing with Grammar, but they struggled with that as well. Help before I loose my mind. They are 5th grade level. Any suggestions to get us out of this learning malfunction. I keep telling my husband I am not the right teacher for our children, but he won't do anything about it.
  7. I saw it at http://www.rocksolidinc.com It says that S. Bauer recommends in the TWTM. It was $8.
  8. you do to take a break for yourself? I don't take much time to myself. My mom is always telling me to get away when my husband gets home, but I don't because I don't have anywhere to go.
  9. with a week off at Thanksgiving. We started late July. Had a few fridays off as well.
  10. They have had grammar yearly since 1st grade. We used FLL on both of them, then we went to Growing with grammar since 3rd grade. They just don't seem to retain what they learn. With the growing with grammar my son 10 yrs. old wouldn't read the student book. He thought he was above that book or he thought he knew it already. So do you think since we haven't used Rod and Staff before we are going to be in over our heads with level 5? I think we will have to suffer through, because I already have all the materials. hahahha
  11. My kids ages are 10 and 12. They are about at the same level though. I will start R & S in January. I think I was overwhelmed before because I was looking for something with less teacher involvement. But now I am hearing of people making it just that, less teacher. I want them to learn how to learn on their own. Plus I wasn't use to a text book. Thanks
  12. Does anyone have this that you would care to share? We will be starting this in January. I was overwhelmed before with this curriculum and sold it and now I have it again, hoping it will help my children. Thanks
  13. What do you all do on the last school day before Christmas break? Anything special or just regular work.
  14. For the most part my children love this program and doing better than I expected. My children don't like missing any words and having to rewrite on the other line, but life goes on.
  15. that works with English from the roots up vol. 1 My kids hate Wordly Wise and run screaming from the room. 5th grade.
  16. Does anyone have a favorite website or book for biology experiments for 5 and 7th grader. Science is weak around here.
  17. http://www.frik-n-frak.com/ not a catalog but great website. Jill
  18. What would you use for a 5th and 7th grader who still don't know that Alabama is in the United States? A new teacher? hahahh We have played the online games, but I thought they had the states pretty well down, I guess not. I know about sheppardsoftware.com do you have any other games or books, etc. that you would use for learning states and then world geography? Thanks
  19. Do a search for online guitar lessons. You should find a lot of options.
  20. Sonlight sells singapore and Christian book also sells it.
  21. it is from http://www.praykids.com It has booklets you read stories from and there is a teachers guide to go along with the booklets. They have 27 different titles.
  22. I don't know even what year I am on, I just was going to start in about 1900's. Textbooks would be to complicated for 2 different grades. I was looking at these books from rainbow resource. http://www.rainbowresource.com/prodlist.php?sid=1224971467-1318913&subject=14&category=4560 Since I have already scrapped my original history plans I need something reasonably priced. I had mystery of history getting ready to start over with the history learning but I sold that, thinking I would get it again next year. We studied american history all last year and just never finished and I wish I had had a curriculum, so I knew the direction I was going.
  23. Does anyone have any suggestions for books during this time period? I have a 5th and 7th grader. I never really had a set curriculum for american history, I was hodge podging and now I am lost.
