  1. Story of my life, story of 2/3 of my day.  Please don't talk to me first thing in the morning.  Also, please don't save up everything for night time, when I am unwinding and trying to read.  I have a narrow window of time available between me taking my nighttime meds and me passing out, so...

  2. I don't have a degree, but I have college credits (just not as many as Mergath and Plum Crazy!).  I would like to go back to school after the girls are graduated.  There were a lot of unhappy circumstances that prevented me from attending immediately following high school, and I made a deliberate choice to become a SAHM instead of continuing a technical degree.

So yeah... like Mergath said, I'm not uneducated, I just don't have that piece of paper.  And that's why I hate that a bachelor's is practically required for the most menial positions anymore.  There are plenty of intelligent, motivated, qualified individuals who (for whatever reasons) don't have 4-year degrees.  Anyway, off my soapbox.   :p

  3. She needs to just resign.  It's probably apparent to most on the board how I feel about this issue, but I have thought many times about this, and if I was in her position, I would resign.  She says she doesn't want the spotlight.  She's not acting in accordance with those words.

Like I said before, it's just not a good look.  Please stop.

  4. I was also going to suggest crafting for charity.  Rebecca makes pet beds and she's going to take them to Petco for the adopted animals.  I make baby blankets for Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep and also a local pregnancy center.  Hats, socks, scarves, etc. can be used for local homeless shelters.

  5. Probably because it is not a legitimate concern: as has been explained time and again, "Xian" is a perfectly acceptable way to write "Christian." Look: http://www.vox.com/2014/12/14/7374401/jesus-xmas-christmas. That's from one quick google search; if you don't like that take a look for yourself. It is not offensive(!).

And last time I checked, Christians (or Xians, same thing!) in most parts of the world were not marginalized and victims of hate crimes and injustice. Members of the LGBT community? And how!!

What is with the overwrought nonsense of Xians (Christians) playing the victim when they are absolutely not? C'mon now. Take a step back and look at the situation objectively.

"Gays" is a perfectly acceptable way to refer to homosexuals as a group, but a member requested that it not be used, and I haven't seen anyone refusing that request. (I am obviously using this as an example.)

I am not asking for anything that I am not willing to give.

I am most certainly not "playing the victim."

I would have thought that everyone would be willing to be mature adults who respect everyone.

    I suppose not.

  6. I'm not sure what you're talking about. Yes, I think, mockery is a useful tool. Let's mock terrible ideas. Let's mock willful ignorance and--honestly--people who choose to be willfully ignorant who flaunt their ignorance. I've got no problem with that. And if someone mocks me for farting above my own butthole about something I don't know (a French expression I quite enjoy), I deserve it. Maybe I'll have some humility and learn something.

I think cartoons can be a great example of this.

I don't think calling someone ignorant is hateful. I'm ignorant about a lot of things. If I pretend that I'm not, and I try to degrade other people who actually know something about an issue and marginalize them, and someone calls me on it, they're not necessarily being hateful. They may simply be defending themselves.

Using disliked variations of names?  Are you talking about albeto. using "xian". I think mommaduck has explained this myriad times that this is a Christian construct. It's only took on a pejorative when Christians forgot that and decided that it was persecution ("Taking the 'Christ' out of Christmas). If you're talking about something else, I'm afraid I don't know what.

If someone called Christians zombie-worshipping delusional cannibals (zwdc), yes that would be ugly, and I would speak out against it. Similarly if someone referred to gay people by something rude.

As it is "xian" shouldn't be considered any more mean-spirited than the words "str8" or "gay".

Isn't it more important how the person being referred to feels about the moniker, and not whether it is "legitimate" or not?  I am fully aware that x is a substitute for Christs's name.

  7. Yes. I would be frustrated and angry, but yes. As I mentioned before, SCOTUS has made multiple rulings I don't agree with. I still recognize that their function is to interpret the Constitution even if they arrive at conclusions I don't like or think are incorrect.

Courts frequently make decisions that I, in my infinite wisdom, know are wrong. ;) I deal. :D

I would criticize the decision and then would then support efforts to reverse it via the legislative process (ie an amendment if needed).

Thank you both for your answers.  :)

  8. I probably won't try them again, at least not anytime soon.  I'll post pics of what I did instead.

I whipped this up to console myself for the slipper fail - found the pattern on Pinterest:

And then made a pair of these for the school chairs with double-stranded bulky yarn that I'd bought for the slippers.  Rebecca will try using the rest of it for hats for her and Sylvia.  Pattern is from KnitPicks' The Well Made Home.seatcushions_zps90ucv9ih.jpg

  9. It is the job of SCOTUS to interpret the Constitution. In what way are the justices overstepping their bounds when they do just that?

SCOTUS has made rulings I disagree with. But our government is set up so that the judicial branch has a function. I can't proclaim that their decisions are illegitimate just because I happen to disagree with them. SCOTUS has a job to do, and they do it.

Legitimate question: Would you be saying the same thing if the decision had gone the other way?
