  1. we are half way through this and I totally agree. if you pm me, i would love to see your notebooking pages. we are 3/4 of the way through SOTW 1 and just love it!
  2. I am trying to get everything ready to start first grade science in the fall. I think I want to do it as they recommend in WTM. (Read and Narrate using certain spines 3 units: Botany, Anatomy and Animals) What tips can you give me for making this successful? I already read aloud history and have her narrate and illustrate that. Is that what we should do for science as well? The illustration part seems a bit odd to me. She may not be able to draw the things we learn about, but how else do I document what she is learning? Thanks for any input or recs you can give me.
  3. Thanks Nest of Three. I always like/agree with what you post. I have been meaning to tell you that.
  4. To clarify, I wouldn't wear the shorts to the wedding. I would have to keep looking for something else for that. Thanks for weighing in everyone. I do like the first one but feel uncomfortable in the strapless. AND the first one was by far the most expensive. I will keep thinking about it...now off to wax off my unibrow...that is a good idea no matter what I wear!
  5. anyone want to weigh in (kindly please) about what I should wear to an event with my husband tomorrow. you can check out my blog post. it is mostly meant as funny, i don't take myself too seriously. it is so weird to get older and not be able to figure out what to wear and what is appropriate and flattering anymore. http://ohio12.blogspot.com/
  6. Thanks ladies, but this is not a speed or size issue. This is that blogger rejects my pictures saying there is no path to access them. I am going to continue to try to google the issue. I wonder if this is a sign to give up on the blog!:glare:
  7. Has anyone else suddenly had trouble getting pictures to download using blogger? I actually use blogger in draft. Any tips?
  8. I have read it and love it. I don't follow all of it, but I swear by her rec of the NOW multi vitamins and lots of protein and fish oil.
  9. Dr Oz says we are stuck with it! I am not overweight but I am very dimply. :(
  10. I second the smoothie idea. Or natural peanut butter on toast. Don't let yourself get hungry. Eat a bunch of healthy lean protein. I lose it if I let myself get hungry. Good luck.
  11. dd (4) wants a bubble machine for her b-day. do they work? does anyone have a rec for a good one? TIA!
  12. thank you! good tips! i never would have thought of sears. we don't have a sams membership, but maybe someone can let me in. i have also thought the tankinis would be good for going potty. do they stay put..my tankinis float up in the water.
  13. i cannot find swimsuits i like for dds age 4 and 6. did anyone get anything they liked this year? requirements are that they be one piece and have a little bit thicker strap, the thin ones cut in. also, no halter, those pull on your neck. the only ones i have found that i like are lands end and they are twice what i usually spend! any suggestions?
  14. anyone care to share your experience with dc getting tonsils out? df of dd age 6 is having a lot of pain in recovery, even with Tylenol with codeine every four hours. is this normal? she is about 24 hours out btw. when might she feel better? thanks for any insight.
  15. I know I have seen this before, but I can't find it now. There was a website where you can put in your own text and it will generate a handwriting practice worksheet for you. I did a little googling, but I could only come up with ones where they give you something to trace. We are beyond tracing. Anyone have a good tip?
  16. Anyone really familiar with the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago? Our local museum has a reciprocal agreement with them and we are going to go when we are in town this weekend. I am wanting to know what to FOR SURE see for my kids (4 and 6). We did study SOTW Ancients this year and I want to hit anything that would have to do with that. I would also like any tips to make our visit go smoothly. When my parents took us as kids I just remember wandering around aimlessly complaining that we were hungry and thirsty.
  17. http://runofthemillfamily.blogspot.com/search/label/history%20projects this lady's blog is great!
  18. I am looking at the Biology pre-level one for my dd who will be first grade next year. Can anyone tell me whether I need the teacher's manual or not? thanks
  19. We LOVE the Jesus Storybook Bible! I give that as gifts all the time now. we have my narnia books from when I was a child.
  20. MIL wants to buy dds a book for Easter and she wants to know what to get. I am drawing a blank! Any ideas? I don't want to waste the opportunity. ages 4 and 6, but they like chapter read alouds and books with great illustrations. She said it can be from the Christian book store or Barnes and Noble. (I am thinking something about art, a classic chapter book, something Christian..or anything else you recommend!) PS: I am thinking only to spend $30 total for one nice book or two not as pricey.
  21. I will not be a great deal of help because I can't offer experience, but I am starting first grade science this summer, just like you and will be doing the WTM version. I do think that a whole year of creatures that fly is too much, but not really a wrong choice. You could certainly incorporate that into your unit on animals. I am tweaking it a little because my dd has been so interested in animals that she already knows a great deal about them, so I may substitute a unit on the planets or something. Good luck!
  22. I think for dresses, Marshalls and TJ Maxx have nice stuff. Or check the sale rack. I have to wear dresses to DH's work stuff and I never spend over $80 and sometimes much less. If you lived close I would leend you something!
  23. I appreciate these thoughts. It is more "justifying" it and I don't want that pit of guilt in my stomach. but I can't decide whether once I have them I will actually feel great! As to whether I would be wearing them all the time, I guess I would like to start dressing better ALL of the time, but not sure exactly what that would look like. I suppose these particular outfits would be for company and church and small group. We don't have a budget but we don't spend more than we have. We save all our extra for retirement because DH does not get retirement through work so more can always go to that.
  24. This post is part moral dilemma, part fashion dilemma. Do any of you spend kind of a lot of money on clothes? Since I have been a SAHM (6 years now) I basically go to Kohl's or Target once or twice a year and get a few shorts or yoga pants to wear all the time. Then when I need to go to something nice a few times a year I buy something a little nicer on sale at Macy's or TJ Maxx. We have a little tiny bit more money now, and I am tired of looking sloppy, but I think it is SO HARD to find comfy classy nice stuff. All this to say, I went to J Crew the other day and I could have bought the WHOLE store. The pants were not too low wasted, the colors were classy, not too old, not too young. BUT...you knew this was coming. An outfit is $150-$200 dollars and I could use 3 or 4 of them. Do any of you buy several of those a year? How much money would you have to have as a household income to justify it? Talk me through this. Please know that I am generally very frugal. I only buy chicken breasts on sale and I still wear the same two sports bras I have had for ten years.
